Everyone made such a big deal about the covering system in Gears of War, but am I the only one who preferred the way games such as GRAW or R6V approached thier covering systems? Don't get me wrong, I thought Gears was a great game, but hitting the A button to take cover seemed very clunky to me and it often resulted in doing something completely different than what I wanted to do. GRAW and R6 both made taking cover seem very natural and effective, either by just by running up to cover and holding the directional pad towards the object (GRAW), or by holding down the left trigger for as long as you wanted to ramain behind said cover (R6).

I prefered gears. But I played gears before RS. Am I right in beleiving you played RS and GRAW before gears? Usuauly whichever you played first will always be in your mind, as the best.

I wasn't crazy about GRAW's cover system, but R6V's is excellent. I really like the way Gears does it too, but I know what you mean about pressing A and getting unexpected results.

My only complaint about the gears cover systme is that sometime when your in a frantic hurry to get away from someone, like a nade tagger and as you try to roll your guy sticks to a near-by wall and BOOM, your dead.

All three systems seem broken to me. I got used to Gears' cover system so I no longer get whisked into cover when I'm trying to run out of danger. Gears is a pretty frenetic shooter, and being able to take cover very quickly is a boon in this type of game.

The GRAW cover system isn't perfect either but it is good for this type of tactical shooter; however, it still seemed unwieldy to me. Sometimes you wouldn't get into cover when you ran up to a wall, and the whole thing seemed a little "detached" to me.

The R6 cover system makes sense for a first person shooter and it was executed well, but holding the left trigger for long periods of time (when under heavy fire) isn't much fun.

If they can somehow combine the cover systems from Gears and R6, I would be very impressed.

I did play GRAW before I played Gears, but I didn't play R6 until a few weeks after I beat it. I do agree that playing GRAW first may have had an influence, but there is still the issue of having unwanted actions taking place when what I really wanted to do was take cover, which was never an issue in either GRAW or R6.

Almost everybody who played Gears has had this problem, but it's not that big a deal. If you play the game enough you can maneuver out of almost any situation. I've never had a problem with the A button in single player, only in ranked matches. The best way to deal with it is to play on wide open maps instead of cramped ones (i.e. don't play on Raven Down etc.)

In general terms, I like the R6 cover controls better, however I think due to the gameplay style of Gears, the A button worked better. Niether are perfect though.

I like how R6 made it so you changed to third person when you enter cover and went back into first when you wernt.

Not true, at least for me.  I played GRAW first then Rainbow Six then Gears.  GRAW was great at the time but after playing R6 and Gears, I'd have to say I prefer their system more.  Just because GRAW tends to be a little sensitive at the wrong moments.

I think the rainbow cover system is great for FPSs and the Gears system works best for Thrid Person.

Yes.

Epic wanted Gears to have a simple control scheme, even though there are quite a few options you have in movement, so it was accessible for beginners. However, I don't like the control scheme. It may be easy, but when you are a little more then just a beginner, it's really hard to pull off what you want to do.

Everybody has at least once experienced in multiplayer, the 'I wanted to roll back but I took cover on a wall' movement. I have it a couple of times, it's really annoying. The A button for running and rolling (basically, getting you're ass from one place to another as fast as you can) as well as for taking cover (basically, standing completely idle against a wall)? That's a bit weird. Since getting you're ass out of a firefight and standing idle against a wall are two completely different things that will get you killed when it happens to you.

They should have made an option to choose and advanced control scheme, seperating rolling, running and taking cover.

I played Gears first, and when I started playing R6 I didn't like the cover system. I changed my mind in the first 5mins, and now I can never get back to feeling comfortable with the Gears system. I just think that R6 has a better system.
