I doubt they would drop the CoD logo, why lose the name recognition? Unlikely. sToK3d

I'm sure infinity ward wants to attract every kind of customer possible. If they change the title, casual gamers won't know it's a follow up to CoD4. Some will, most probably won't. They don't cater only to the hardcore category, no matter how much you want it to be. Again, I doubt they will drop the name. Unless they put some silly sticker such as "From the creators of Call of Duty 4!.."

I think that's the point..They want to separate themselves from Treyarch...It can be argued that Treyarch has brought very little to the table and has ridden on the coat tails of IW's hard work this entire gen...

While I agree the brand name COD is very strong....The difference is while Modern warfare is not a brand name...It's recognized at the consumer level and simply naming it "Modern warfare 2" willnot hinder the perception if what the game is...If anything..it brings more focus to the name "Modern warfare" and less confusion as to a another COD game that is "for example" in a WW2 setting

Activision saw what huge backing and fan base it has and gave Infinity Ward their own franchise "modern warfare" Treyarch will stil do Call of Duty games but Infinity Ward has moved on. IMO Infinity Ward wanted to seperate itself from treyarch because of the disaster known as Call of Duty 3 and the mediocre Call of Duty World At World.

I didn't think World at War was that bad.

WAW isnt "bad" it just didnt really bring anything "new" to the franchise, it just seems like Infinity Ward has done most the work then Treyarch just used what Infinity Ward came up with.

I think that's just dumb. How many games have the name modern combat/warfare in it? It's going to confuse a lot of "casual" gamers.

Hmm, I am very much a fan of cod4, and I love how infinity ward takes FPS. The thing I wonder is the gameplay? Cod is known for a certain type of playability and control scheme. Will this change?...I hope not, because IMO Cod4 nailed it.

yea im worried about that as well, now that it has been established as it's own franchise and no longer going by Call of Duty will IW do some things that wouldnt normally be done in a Call of Duty game.

Well i'm all about it: the name change, the new game/franchise and especially the fact that its being developed by Infinity Ward. I only purchase IW developed COD games and couldnt stand how teryarch would piggy back on the success of their innovation and bring nothing new to the table. Modern Warfare FTWItalianSta11ion

They confirmed Modern Warefare 2 long before the trailer. They were already saying the game was coming out toward the end of the year. But considering that Cod 3, 4 and World at War all came out on a November of their respective years I don't see how Modern Ware fare 2's date is some awesome revelation.

And I never prayed for the Call of Duty title to be taken off, nor have I heard anyone ask for it. Regardless people are still going to consider it a Call of Duty game. I mean, it's a direct sequel to a Call of Duty game.

What now? Is there going to be a Call of Duty spin off every other year now, or what?
