$179.99 for the 120GB drive? there has to be some insane markup on that price. I've owned a 360 since launch, and my Live Arcade library is up over 20 games now. I have to delete a couple demos every time I download a new one these days, so I'm thinking about upgrading. It might actually make more sense for me to buy an elite and sell my current 360 to a friend(switching to HDMI would be nice). If I do choose to do that, will I have a way to transfer all my stuff from the old 360 hard drive to the new system? I haven't pulled the hard drive out & taken a look at it yet. Is the cable that comes with the 120GB drive a usb cable or some sort of proprietary cable?

The cable that comes with the hard drive is a USB cable with an end on it that snaps in the old hard drive. But it comes with the elite last i had heard. So if you do plan on getting the elite buy the console transfer your data then send it to a friend.

I just bought an Elite about a month ago. It doesn't come with the cable. You can't buy the cable either. You have to order the cable from MS, and you'll need both serial numbers to get it.

Also, You can't transfer data between HDDs. The only way to do it is from a 20gb to the 120gb transfer. You can't transfer vice versa, nor can you transfer 20 to 20. Also, moving files with a Memory Card isn't ideal because some content can't be moved. When I was moving files back and forth, my Forza profile got lost. I lost all my credits, cars, tuning set ups, and paint jobs.

Thanks for the info. One more quick question before i research it. Once I'm done transferring to the new system or drive, is there some sort of "format hard drive" option in the dashboard menu? If I do sell it to a friend/relative, I'd like get all my gamertag info, downloads...etc cleared off of the old drive.

The OLD HDD will be formatted once the transfer is done. It'll be like new. No worries. Just make sure you use the transfer cable rather than the memory card.

Thanks, OK, so if I want to go out & get an elite, I would have to special order the cable, OK. Maybe microsoft will include functionality in future dashboard updates for people who want to upgrade to an elite. It would be cool if they would let you putthe new and oldboxeson the same wired/wireless network & do it across a network. Oh well.

Mircosoft never makes anything easy because they don't like not making money. In my personal opinion they don't do things right on purpose just so they can laugh at our hilarious complaint emails.

I never understood their hard drive and the cost as well. That's why sometimes MS makes it easier for people to leave the 360 in favor of the other console which you can upgrade the hard drive yourself easily. I already installed a 250GB hard drive and it only cost me $100. Why MS doesn't come out with a cheaper HD is beyong me.

I will say that this generation, the PS3 is doing many things right in this regard. You can use any Bluetooth headset instead of the MS $60. You can put any SATA hdd in the PS3, instead of the $100 and $180 MS hdds. The PS3 comes with Blu-ray and MS charges $180 for HD-DVD. The PS3 comes with WiFi and MS charges $100.

I will say I love my Xbox 360. Every expensive accessory I just listed, I bought.

I also think the add-on prices are too overpriced...even if the wireless adapter was $50 instead of $100 I would be more likely to go for it. I also need the 120 gb upgrade AND HD-DVD drive...just seems silly to have to buy all of these things seperately.

Thats a thought, but on the other side, it is nice not having to buy the wireless adapter or the hd dvd drive to play the games to want to play.
