Today my friend came round with marvel ultimate alliance, he put it in my 360 and started it up, near the end of the cutscene, the 360 totally shut off and i saw a red light (i only saw one but i'm pretty sure there were 3 there, the one that i saw lit was the bottom right (my 360 is vertical)). Anyway, very worried, i pulled out the power cable and after much fumbling, i got it back in and turned the 360 on. It worked perfectly from then on for about 2 hours of marvel ultimate alliance and half an hour of demos.

Am i fine? Was it a power fluctuation or something? Does it mean my 360 is going to die soon?? it's a march model i think..

My 360 is plugged into a power strip with my pc, my monitor, my 300w surround sound, my tv, my nad amp and celestion speakers and my freeview box. Could this be a problem?

Damn, if it breaks and microsoft want to charge me for it to be fixed, i'm giving the middle finger to the 360 and switching back to my good old original xbox. Could i transfer my xbox 360 live account to my original xbox?

Wow, third?? MS should really make their consoles much more reliable.I bought mine second hand in july last year so i don't think it counts as under warranty, unless i just have to show date purchased, i still have the receipt. If they make me pay for repairs i will not pay for them and complain LOTS, if they still refuse to do it for free i will be left with an expensive paperweight:O

Dude complain all you want to M$.  Since you bought it second hand M$ has no obligation to your Xbox 360. Under UCC Article 2-318, Microsoft does not have to worry about your warranty because it was been voided by purchasing it from another seller. The only warranty you will have is through the seller if you purchased one.

Lol... make them more durable? Hes one person... People act like millions broke. Well there numbers were a bit high it was somwhere around 3-5% defects. People need to realize that consoles and electroncis in general ship out in the millions and theres bound to be a small percentage that break but the thing people dont consider is how many that still is. Im just going to use some numbers though they aren't nesarrarly accurate but will give you a idea what i mean.

Say microsoft sold 10M 360s as of today with a 2% defect rate. Thats 20000 consoles which makes it look like tons are breaking but its really a very small amount in terms of the total output. My console was bought last year at the end of summer and its still fine. Take better care of them, or buy from a more reliable place. If that ain't the case you just got bad luck. sorry.

I dunno what peoples problem with the 360 is,TBH, I know many people were stung with bad hardware I personally thought mine was dying at several times.....turns out it doesn't like a heavy cache build up, nor being left on idle for 12 hours, then come back to it. I had this problem when playing Castlevania, i'd gone back to the game, and noticed it locked up several times but never any RRODs, not one seen yet. But after completing the game i found problems in other games: Street Fighter 2, Gears of War, Perfect Dark 0, Marble Blast Ultra, Boom Boom Rocket, and Gyruss, were games which were giving me problems, but that was until i left it off for 8 hours, it started playing again. Then....after trying one of the new features......i did maintenance on the console and it cleared the cache, and OMFG...Street fighter works properly again, when before it would only reach the loading screen, but if something like maintenance Cache clearing works...then i'll never doubt the 360's reliability as mine is still the launch box

The thing is that i know many people who have had bad experiences, my friends xbox 360 recently broke and many of the people who i have played with on xbox live have had their 360s give them the 3 red lights and they have had to pay to get it fixed. My friend who had the 3 red lights recently also had a launch console which MS were supposed to fix for free but they told him it makes no difference and want to charge him £85 for repairs. They should make the 3 red lights problem free to fix as it technically is microsofts fault, most 360s don't last over a year. If i am paying 100s of £s for a next gen console, i expect it to last over a year.

I'm not saying they should be more durable.. Mines in perfect condition, not a scratch on it, it has been kept in a very well ventilated spot and has never overheated or had any other problems. All i'm saying is that they should make the hardware inside better. Also, many other peoples 360s may still break even if they're not defective at first, like mine. yours could break down with the 3 red lights at any time. If you ask most of the 360 users with large gamerscores such as mother_farter there will be a good chance that they have been through more than 1 360.

Mine might not be dieing as it currently is working perfectly, was yours getting the 3 red lights?

EDIT: Sorry just noticed you said about not seeing any RROD's

It's weird allot of people take this so lightly and tell people not to complain. Mine is currently in the repair station and when i get it back I'll be officially on my fourth. I'm getting pretty sick of this. It also seems to happen everytime I need it the most. First time, I was waiting ages for Gears of War, I got it and a few hours later it broke down. Second time, I was still jumping around waiting to play Gears. I got it back and not two days later it broke down again. Not even finished Gears I once again send it in. Got it back and I finally got to enjoy it for about 5-6 months. Over those 5-6 months I've pretty much played Gears only. And when does it break down? A week after I got C&C3, two days after I got FEAR and a day before the release date of FM2.

Offcourse I'm getting sick of it. Sure, I'm complaining. But you go and tell me why my complaining isn't justified.

Yea it annoys me a lot, if i'm paying so much for a piece of hardware i at least expect it to work for an considerable amount of time. My original xbox is 3, nearly 4 years old and has never given me a single problem. That is why i'm going back to it if this 360 breaks.

The thing is that i love my 360, i love the graphics, the games, the controller, xbox live, everything about it, it just annoys me that they should break so easily. Microsoft severely skimped on some parts of the premium package such as the headset which is a flimsy piece of crap which recently broke, i am back to using my old xbox headset (from xbox live on the old xbox) which has been working for nearly 2 years. What is there to say that they didn't skimp on the hardware on the 360 as well, to keep the price down. My friend has gone through 3 or 4 official headsets and is now on a wireless one which i can't comment on because i don't own one and have never used one. I know that was a bit off topic but oh well.

If you plug your 360 into a surge protector, its going to get the redlights because its not recieving enough power. This has happened to me. I now plug my 360 into the wall and it works fine. The power brick is a surge protector in itself. Well I don't think you have to worry about your 360 it should be okay.

Thanks, i hope it doesn't die on me! The problem is that i only have 1 power point near me 360 so i'm forced to plug it into a power strip (not a surge protector). When i move my room around my 360 will have its own dedicated power point.

I have had my 360 hooked up to a surge protector since day 1 and no problems so if I were you buy a better surge protector or just belive microsoft when they say it will be fine when lightning hits your neighborhood and makes your 360 worthless it will happen. so go to Wal Mart and buy a surge protector just like I did and you will be fine.

Maybe you have a warranty because I had to spend money on it to get it repaired and I did not have a warranty.

Just to be clear for all of you tuning in.  99% of the time you never get a new unit.  They're usually all refurbs.

You are right. My surge protector was pretty crappy. A really good one would do the job

This exact same thing happened to me. I was playing Oblivion when it froze then when I went to turn the system on I got the three red lights. I decided to wait 15 minutes and my system worked fine for the rest of the night. Next morning I turned the system on and I got the three red lights again and this time they were permanent. So basically your 360 is going to die soon.
