Thought I would ask this of the community, even though this may sound a little silly. The aforementioned. On a general level across games, is there a perceived method in finding and getting achievements. Some gamers seem to find this easy peasey, where as I struggle. For example with Witcher 3. If you wanted to hunt down all of the achievemnts, I guess you play side quest after side quest?

you could refer to xboxachievements.com for reference and roadmaps on how to plan your achievement runs for most games, I used to try and get them all, but nowadays there are so many that is pretty hard to complete 100% most games.

If you really want to build your achievements always look for an "achievement roadmap", it'll provide you with a methodical way of unlocking all the achievements in the fastest possible way. I see achievements/trophies as a self goal system, I like to get the hardest difficulity trophy/achievement and the aggregate gamerscore doesn't matter. I see a lot of people with 100,000 gamerpoints but when I see their gamercard, a lot of their points are from telltale games, terminator salvation, avatar the last air bender and hanna montana. I don't know about you but i'd rather not have games like hanna montana on my gamercard even if its an easy 1000G...

Now as for the roadmap, I find games with a rating of 5 are not games you can get 1000G easily, you have to "get into the game". Games with a rating of 2-3 are really easy and you can expect to get them very easy without too much if any effort. Games above 5 are quite difficult and if you intend to get all the achievement then you'll have to understand the game mechanics reasonably well.

Yeah hear ya. One of the reasons that my G's are pretty low is that I don't care too much about that. In terms of achievements, the personal one would be to give a good account of myself in any given game. With the game mechanics, I just look at the technical aspects. IE, what I need to do to complete a mission/quest or whatever it would be called. I would rather have the feeling that I have won a decent fight using my tactical arsenal as it were. I guess that is where I have a clash of thoughts. It would seem obvious that I cannot play a core achievement hunt in that fashion. Still though, I thought that I would have accrued a lot more in GTA V for example. I look a bit further into what you suggest. The linkage above while informative, did not have what I was looking for.

@transk53: I've gotten the platinum trophy for the Witcher 3 (I played on the PS4) so I can offer a few tips. Basically if you want all the achievements for The Witcher 3 just make sure you play every Gwent player you come across, buy every gwent card in every single merchant you come across and to save some time play the game on Death March immediately. Its not hard at all, just upgrade Quen, collect as many place of power skill points as you can as soon as possible and dodge a lot. Just remember Hit and Run. Don't worry about the combat achievements, come back to them later once you finished the game and most importantly enjoy the game. I admit I've played a lot of games I didnt really enjoy that much just for the trophies but I can assure you every single second of Witcher 3 is amazing and you'll probably naturally get all the achievements with the exception of the Gwent cards, you have to go out of your way to get them all.

Thanks peeps. Some good info there. Gwent I find a bit boring to be honest. Then again in real life I am not much of a card player really. Absolutely rubbish at poker, snap is about my level lol. However I will look at Gwent further.

Finding them is pretty easy, xboxachievements has clear lists with methodical breakdowns of how to approach the game, though seconding what was said above trueachievements sound ideal for you, they offer a ratio showing how easy an achievement is based on how many tracked gamers have managed to get it, so much better than gamerscore!

I think how you get them is personal to you, with witcher 3 looking thoroughly at a list and seeing all the secret, plot revealing achievements could potentially ruin it for you. Though knowing approaching a challenge in a particular way will get you an achievement can be really rewarding.

There's a method in looking at lists and using the information to enhance your experience whilst not detracting from the game by reducing it to ticking off predictable boxes.
