My theory:

By killing Paulie, the darkness finally consumes him and claims his soul (remember that during the last section the darkness keeps urging you to kill more people). The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe he ends up like his grandfather in the WWI world. The ending on the bench is him saying goodbye to the memory of his gf before he is taken away.

Anyone got any better ideas? Mine are a bit hazy.

I agree with your response, I gathered the same thing from the ending.

From what i've gethered from the ending and the comic, The ending was just a dream, and Jackie goes on to take over the business, bringing it back to where it once was, He then takes a trip back down and trys to free Jenny from "Hell" He kinda does, but unlike Jackie she doesn't come back to life,This led to Jackie taking control of the Franchetti family. Since taking control of the Franchetti family, Jackie has vastly expanded his mafia, taken on the Triads, and fought the Russian Mafia in Atlantic City.

Also note: Jackie has appeared in crossover storylines involving Tomb Raider, Witchblade, Painkiller Jane The Hulk, Batman, Superman, Aliens, Predator, and Wolverine.

I liked the ending, it also sets the game up for a possible second chapter. ;)

As for the question about the comics check out topcow.com . They have an online reader that has some stuff to read, like the first darkness issue, and they sell their comics in the store. They do not have all the issues for sale unfortunatley, but it could be a great start to understanding the darkness story by getting the available issues.

I loved the ending...very sad and depressing. He gave into his primemortial need for revenge and sacrifice his soul...quite the statement. He did what he wanted to do rather than what he should have. And that was to take him to the police. But he didn't do that...I personaly loved it.

I think that that game is the greatest game ever made. It had THE perfect ending, cause just like the whole game, you were confused outta your mind. You don't know what really happened. I don't read the comic books, so I just go by the game. They had better make a second one so I know what happens.

He wouldn't be able to bring him to the police anyway, if you wait long enough he pulls out another gun and starts shooting at you.

Yeah, I'd definitely have to say that that was one of the best game scripts ever written. Some moments in that game were far more powerful than most movies. Trying to save Jenny but being held back by what is an extension of your soul, being the reaper....it was far more intense than I had expected.

yeah, if you just go by the game, i cn see where it is kind of confusing. like the person above said though, If you've read the comics, then jackie still has the darkness and is one bad s.o.b. I hope they make another game.

and on a side note, i loved the one loading screen where jackie talks about riding in the taxi with his good friend, crazy abdul. i laughed everytime i heard it.

I was surprised how they ripped of Braveheart with the ending of the game. Hell the dialog is almost the same as when he is dreaming in braveheart. William Wallace says, Am i dreaming. His dead wife says. Yes and you must wake now. He says. I don't want to wake up. I'm sitting their watching the end of the game having deja vu.
