The Darkness - What do you think?

Ok I remember seeing screen shots of this game back when I first heard of it, and thinking looks pretty lame... I had zero interest.

Yesterday I noticed that this game was available as a demo on the Marketplace so I figured what the heck I will try it out.

I was very surprised! This game looks very interesting and I am thinking about buying it. I was going to rent it but I am far to impetious to do that hehe.

I was wondering what is the general concenses for this game, better as a rental or worthy of purchase?

For the love of Yoshi rent it. You can easily beat the SP in a day or two (Maybe3 if you take your time) and the multiplayer is forgettable. It's pretty and pretty overrated imo (=P).Good rental, not a buy. Those are my two cents.

It's a rental,but it's agreat game. I bought it, have no regrets,cuz will def. play again to master better kills and more snakeplay. There are some pretty interesting achievements to get.

Right now I am busy with Overlord though.

by playing the demo i found it more fun to turn of the auto aim, it makes it much more immersive

Thanks for the frank responses, I am not really one for multi-player, that is mind numbing to me. I am more into the story single-player for the game. Don't get me wrong I like to play multi-player, but to me they are all the same and I have to be in the mood to deal with all of the roxor chit.

I dont tend to sit down and play games for 8 hours straight any more, so a 20 hour game might last me a few weeks. I have a 3 year old to entertain. Plus this game would never be on the screen while he was around hehe.

I have checked and all of the local blockbusters are saying its out on rental, so if I want to play it any time soon, I may go ahead and buy it. So far that is the majority.

Its a rental, but only because of its length.

Yeah, the shortness of the game is putting me on the fence, longer game and it would be no brainer. What is the length of the single player?

It can be completed between 6-10 hours depending what difficulty you're playing on, and how much you care about getting the collectibles and doing sidequests. I recommend playing it on hard the first time because it's an easy game.

As a FPS game it fails beyond belief:

- The environments arent that varied

- The guns feel like weak and not sun to use

+ the game has a great story but then again its a game not a film there fore does nuthing IMO

The only thing I like from the game are the DEMON weapons but the get a bit tedious to use after a while. I havent even completed it because I love my FPS games and this doesnt deserve the genre name.

I agree with this post.

Alot of the length of the game is made up of simply having to go back and forth through the same places.

And the guns feel really weak and lots of them have a short range, making long distance firefights feel really awkward and difficult.

I agree that it kind of fails as an FPS. Kind of a cool story tho, and some of the environments in "hell" or w/e are really cool...but there's no way near enough of them

I do not regret paying the money for it at full cost. I usually reserve enough for one game a month--this was the best game for the month! Good game--pretty immersive--I agree it is not a great FPS--but that is by design of the game--the demon powers are used more than running and gunning. I really liked the story-looks A LOT like chronicles of Ridick (especially character faces). I would suggest renting it because for a six day rental I bet you can finish it. I played it through twice in about a week--and thats about maybe 2 hours a sitting. I enjoyed the levels and the storyline.

I bought it and do not regret the purchase. Story was awesome, maybe one of the best story driven FPS games. I enjoyed the gunplay and the executions rocked my socks. Characters were memorable and without spoiling anything some scenes made you feel real emotion for your character and his loved ones.

I completed it in about a week on normal and have started playing again on hard to complete some side missions I never got to and to hunt down collectibles I didn't find first time around.

Did not try MP but thats not what I bought it for. The single player is where the meat and potatoes are!

Wonderful game and story. Multiplayer is fun, but can get extremely laggy and choppy at times.

its pretty good so far. im probably 2/5 done with it.

it does get confusing, like half the time i dont know what to do. so i just walk around an area forever till i find the right path.

the story is great and the ingame cinema's are fun to watch. music is great as well.

i bought it. try renting first. i can tell how some people wouldn't like it, but i do...for the most part.

buy it!its an awesome game.if you play it on hard and do the side quest,find the phone numbers ect it takes longer than youd think but its still short.

then again,its allways good to rent if your iffy on it,ones mans trash is another mans treasures so to speak.

Well I have been playing the Darkness over the last two nights and the game is off the hook, I love it so far. I am moving pretty slowly for the game enjoying the environment and doing all of the side missions I can find.

I still think rental was the right way to go, I dont see the replay value, but if they ever put out a sequel I am all over it.

Rent.Great Game.Multiplayer Kills it.
