Do you recommend this game?

I love RPG games, I'm just not sure about this one because I haven't played the past Elder Scrolls. I'm afraid if I buy it, I'll be totally lost. It also looks a little confusing from what I've seen in the videos. How's the learning curve?

I appreciate all input, Thanks.:D

You'll most likely feel, lost, but not because of the story. (The games aren't in any order at all) As soon as you finsih the quick tutorial, the game let's you loose, completely free to do anything you want. It's a GREAT game (My favorite on the 360 still) and this website should help you with anything you'll need while playing. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion

The game does a good job at telling you what to do. You can always access your journal which provides you with detailed information on what to do, you can set a marker on your map, the game will put it's own market on the map for the mission that you have activated. It's very informative and works very well despite it's unbelievable size and depth.

Everybody remotely interested in RPGs or adventure games simply has to try this game.

This is a great game. If you do end up getting it thought, get the Game Of The Year Edition, already has extra content loaded on it.

But I was a little hesitant about buying this game as well. I am so glad I did. The learning curve is not really that bad. You know how everything works, but it takes a little bit to remember what controls what, if you know what I mean. The map IS huge, but your quests will guide you, kinda show you the ropes, and show you where to go before you go out on your own. Of course, you don't even have to follow the quests, just go out and mess around. Kill sheeps and stuff :)

It's really not that mcuh of a confusing game. It is actually really easy to understand what to do. I would guess learning curve is about 30 minutes for me. But I really enjoyed this game and will reccomend it to anyone. I don't usually like RPG games, but this one spiked my interest so now I love 'em.

Ok, thanks guys.

I'll probably end up renting the game first, just to try it out.

Yeah Oblivion, best game i ever bought, the moment i walked out og those sewers into the sunny world my jaw hit the floor.

Its easy to get into, but it does need commitment. iv racked up over 1000 hours easily.

If u havent yet got it u should get the game of the year edition, it has the knights of the nine and shivering isles expansions.

You should get it. They just released a version that has Knights of Nine and the Shivering Isles, if I had known about this version I would have waited for it. You should get it soon though cos they are gonna bring out a new download and it will be free in the first week.

Oblivion is probably the best game on the console. Get the GOTY Edition... and get it before the end of next week so you can get that free content. The learning curve isn't steep -- in fact, it's the easiest Elder Scrolls game to learn. Plus, there's tutorials all through the beginning. Two important things:

1) Buy the strategy guide... it'll easily add more time to your gameplay.
2) At the end of the first dungeon when you see the gate to the outside? Save your game in a seperate file so you can come back to it at a later time. The first dungeon is a tutorial, more or less, and after you know how to play the game it's just irritating. If you save before you leave the dungeon, you can start a new game without doing it. Before leaving the area, they let you pick your race etc. again. If you get the guide, they'll let you know the exact point to save so you don't miss it.

The Gme of the Year Edition is $30.00 more than the regular version... Is it worth it?Krynk

If you love Oblivion, then yes. Why? Because the GOTY edition comes with the Shivering Isles expansion which if downloaded from the XBL marketplace, would cost you $30. It also comes with the Knights of the Nine expansion which would cost you $10 to download off of the XBL marketplace.

So basically here's the breakdown:

$30 - Oblivion

$30 - download the Shivering Isles

$10 - download Knights of the Nine

Total = $70

Or......

$60 - Oblivion GOTY (includes Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine)

As a whole, the GOTY edition gives you more game for less money if you want all of the content (not including the smaller downloads, you must download those from XBL)

EDIT: Instead of editing the above info, let me add this. I just found on Gamestop.com a disk that will be released next week that contains the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansion for $30. This might be your best bet, seeing as you don't know if you like it yet.

So, you could buy the original Oblivion for $30, and if you like it, then you could buy this expansion disk which will add the GOTY's additional content for the same price. This will lessen your risk because if you don't like Oblivion, then you only waste $30 instead of $60.

Here is a link to that expansion disk

If you look closely at the box you can see that in small letters towards the bottom it says, "includes Knights of the Nine". I was under the impression that this disk was only the Shivering Isles, but it seems to include both.

Oblivion is wonderful. The sheer amount of exploring and sight-seeing you can do makes the world seem like its worth going that extra mile to see whats off the beaten path. I believe it has upwards of 200 quests, all of which are pretty deep and take some time and effort to complete.

You can also join guilds that each have their own mini-storyline. I quickly found myself addicted to sneaking around the imperial city, breaking into houses, stealing people's treasures, and making a quick escape before the guards show up. (idk what that says about me. :P)

The main storyline is suprisingly long, and really keeps you glued, although its easier if you comlpete some side quests to gain some levels and get better equipment. the idea of leveling up unique also. if your an assassin, you'll gain levels by sneaking around, using stealth kills, and shooting people down with bows.

I cant think of a better way to waste my life. :)

Well I'm going to go against convention here and say, Oblivion is one of the worst RPG's I have ever played.

The story was weak and there were no characters. Yes the world is huge but there is nothing remotely interesting to do in it. I played the game for a 100 hours and was part of the wizards guild and majority of the time you spend going to one uninspired dungeon to the next. The only part that had the slightest amount of interest is the vampire hunting club and trying to help other vampires and looking for a cure.(considering I was a vampire when I jointhe V hunting club.... those guy aint to bright). Again I don't know about some people but I play RPG's for story and characters and Oblivion doesn't deliver on any of those. True Bethesda hired Sean Bean and Patric Stewart but... they have nothing to do in the game. Jrpg's and Bioware do a much better job in giving you compelling stories with interesting characters.

Also you never feel theres a payoff in the game. After finally becoming head of the Wizzard Guild you would expect something... anything to happen but that is not the case. You get the achivment and you fellow wizzards still call you Peon..... that's it :?

The quests were fun IMO. I guess you only did the arch mages guild quests there are so many things to do like going to the arena and fighting gladiators, killing the adoring fan once you finish the arena, Joining the fighters guild , Joining the dark brotherhood which is very fun, Joining the Thieves guild , Finishing the main quest , going on a killing spree which I do:P and alot of DLC.

Oblivion rocked. Go get the GoY addition for all the add-ons and what-nots.

I'm not even a fan of RPGs (I could only play KOTAR for about 10 minutes) and I loved Oblivion.

TES IV is an amazing game. It can be a bit overwhelming at the start of the game considering you're told to do whatever you want but once you get the hang of it (which didn't take me long) it's a very satisfying experience. You should be engrossed in it not long after you buy it. :)

Shivering Isles adds about 30 hours of new storyline to the game. But doing all the sidequests and exploring the new realm will increase that by a fair amount.

Oblivion is the best game Ive played on the 360 and the longest game Ive ever played. There are so many side quests and its loaded with content which makes it so great. The graphics are awesome as well. I liked everything about the game, like the way the NPCs sleep at night time and have conversations with each other, and the range of spells you can perform.

THere are quite a lot of loading times, but they are ver brief and don't take away from the gameplay.\

Its also very easy, in terms of navigation, the map is very useful. Buy the GOTY edition, you will not be disappointed
