Ok, I am kind of tired of all these threads about how goodlooking Killzone2 is and how Halo 3 is going to fail because of its graphics. There are more factors that decides how great a game looks. First off:
Models- Models are very important in a game, a great looking character is always a great looking character. I remember the days when HalfLife 2 just came out and i was amazed how great the characters looked. I couldnt stop thinking about how great they looked, I could actually find myself looking at the models instead of killing them wich cause me to die alot *Ravenholm* . Now we have a few games coming in a near future and the one I believe has the best models is ofcourse Crysis. I myself cannot play it, my uber computer clocks at 701Mhz(lol) but i will go over to my buddy's house just to look at the game and hopefully i will get to play it (YAY).
Animations- Animatoins are also a very important factor and addsto the feelofa game, which could in the end make a game more realistic. I believe we all have heard ofand seen a game called Killzone2. I were sceptic(sp?) about the game because of the first installement but Killzone2 amazed me, not because of models or texture(lol). It was the animations that blew me away, wich makes me wish I sometimes had a Playstation 3, which I will eventually get. The animations in this game are the best in any game I have ever seen, even better than Crysis in my opinion.
Scale- Sure a game can look really good sometimes, like Geras of War. But the problem with Gears of War is thatthegame is really tiny, you dont have the freedom to do as you wish. All you do in that game is following a path and chainsawing everything that moves. What if Gears would have been 10 times bigger or 100 times bigger. What if the game had maps that were10.000 miles wide. I think you know what I am talking about. Yep, Im gonnatalk about Lair. The game seems to be awesome andreally give you freedom to fly whereever you want to go. Freedom in a game is always a good thing. theres also another game that is supposed to have bigfights going on simultanious (sp?). I also heard in the trailer "In the beginning" That it wouldnt be the"graphics" (charactermodels) that would blew us away. It'sgoing to be the scale thats going toamaze peopleand I hope Halo3 does amaze us in that way.
Texture- Oh yeah, who doesnt love high-res-textures. Gears of War had high-res-textures, so why cant Killzone2 have that? Becausethe problem lies within the ram-memory. Even Gears has problems sometimes to display all the high-res-textures. Im just hoping that Uncharted wont have problems with the textures, becauseI think it could become a really funny game to play. We can also add that Rare always makes a good job with the textures, I just wanted to say that.
Framerate- What if Crysis onlycould run at 10 FPS? Everyone would just forget about Crysis because a game isnt going to be fun to play if it was 10FPS. A game looks better the more FPS there is. Its smoother. Some games needs to sacrifice framerates for making a game betterlooking in other areas. As an example that Halo 3 is going to be locked at 30FPS. Sure we always want more, why couldnt it have 60FPS?
Lightining- This is the last thing that I can think of that is included in "great graphics". It adds to the realism and adds to a gmes feel, a games atmosphere. Some games have awesome lightning (Crysis), som game have prerenderd lightning (Killzone2) and some games are just using something different ( Halo3 wich uses one object that lits everything up(the sun)).
Ok, this is what i wanted to say:A game cant have it all(except if its name is Crysis) because consoles cant handle the data. Maybe next-gen but not this gen. Some developers want to make a really greatlooking game and forgets all about the gameplay (Gears) and others keeps gameplay in mind and lower the standards in different areas just to make a game fun to play (Halo3). Its all about the gameplay, deep inside you know thats the thruth. For ten years ago everybody knew that. Nowadays , it seems like noone can remember that anymore. Why are developers making a game thats only 10 hours long? For ten years ago that would have been unlegal (sp?, lol). I just want game that is fun to play, I buy a game because of its gameplay, not because of the graphics.
