I was thinking about 360's red ring of death and how my friends broke a couple months ago. He had sent it into a company a little while after getting it, thinking the first gen problems were fixed, and had a window with lights installed. Maybe the failures are a intentional problem to discourage modders from opening up their consoles. I'm not sure on the numbers but what is the amount microsoft lost to modders on the original xbox versus the 360 for its problems?

If it was actually true itd be a really bad move on customer service side of things but who knows, i mean they do just keep extending that warranty.

I really don't think they'd risk the entire console war (which really isn't a war per se) on stopping piracy. People are already wary of buying a 360 because of the RROD, so in addition to the 1 billion in repairs/warranty, it also cost them credibility and scores of potential buyers. Your theory would make sense if, after sending your 360 in, they would actually truly fix the RROD. As it stands now though it seems like it just gets RROD sooner than before and you get into a cycle.

RROD has cost microsoft millions of dollars by extending the warranty... your theory is completely ridiculous when you think about the cost microsoft is paying.

That is no where near the only reason the 360 was rushed. The original Xbox's graphics chip (Nvidia I believe) had a limited contract, X amount of years. And as the deadline approached Nvidia or whoever refused to renew (the reason why 360 doesn't have true backwards compatibility). So Microsoft could not keep manufacturing the Xbox so they hurried up and got the 360 out the gate as soon as possible and thats why not long after the 360 was released you could no longer buy a brand new Xbox only used.
