I could make a really long list about things that don't make sense in a lot of games, particularly FPS games, but I'll limit myself to ten pet hates:
- indestructable doors and windows. You have a rocket launcher, grenades, and lots of other weapons, but a glass window and a wooden door defeat you every time.
- lightweight objects that cannot be moved or destroyed, eg, chairs, lamps, bottles, etc., that seem to be glued in place and are impervious to rocket attack.
- exploding barrels (usually red in colour), ordinary barrels and wooden crates. Who manufactures these, and why do they seem to appear in almost every shooter?
- being able to carry every weapon in the game (rocket launchers, multiple machine guns, shotguns, pistols, knives, grenades, BFGs, etc.) and still run around like a maniac.
- not seeing any of these weapons or other equipment on your character in 3rd person (magic pocket syndrome).
- regenerating health
- not being able to jump in certain games, so you can't get past a one foot high obstacle.
- not being able to save a game when you want, but having to rely on checkpoint systems or no saves at all. And if you die, checkpoints that insist on showing you a long unskippable cut scene before you can continue playing. Some of us don't have that much free time!
- respawning enemies - particularly from rooms you've already cleared that have no possible other entry points.
- omniscient enemies that can track you through walls and floors and shoot you as soon as you turn a corner.
