XBL doesn't need that garbage, all Home is is an invitation to spend money on useless microtransactions to mess around with your avatar. I will stick with my gamertag.

I doubt it, but i hope. It looks awesome fun. Nothing on the PS3 has ever interested me (ecluding FFXIII :P) but this has. However it's still aint worth £425 to me.

No, 360 doesn't need it. It's biggest strength is the ease of use and streamlined design on the dashboard and XBL. Home looks quite cool, I'll admit, but I worry that it will make simple things too complex. I don't want to load a 3D world, them make my avatar walk to places just to do things that can be done in a few button presses. I like Sony's idea and commend them, but it's not something 360 needs.

the thing is it offers more for the gaming community compared to Live, while it might be simple to use, it is very limited

Home looks rather easy to navigate if you've watched the full GDC conference it's not that complicated or long winded to switch between areas & setup a group conversation with all your gaming mates in your very own lounge, where you can launch into a game of you choice & come back for a chat afterwards

I think Microsoft will bring something new to Live

I'm still not so sure. It will depend on how Home ends up doing. Even the greatest game idea online can be ruined by idiots and griefers. God knows Live has shown us that. I fear that Home will become dominated by idiots and foul-mouhted brats everywhere except your own lounge. If Sony can find a way to stop the online idiots, then I think MS needs to take notice.

Maybe it will make a few of those PS3's sitting around at the local electronics store to start disappearing, but I doubt it...

Look, the only thing MS needs to do is make their service free. Thats it. It's already solid, and fully functional, just make it free and Home is not that big of a deal.

They really can't launch something like that right now anyway, they've chose the format for the service and they're expanding it to windows live. They now have two platforms to work on, and they need to keep them both in sync.

Don't worry, XBL and Windows Live will not be afffected by Home. but Home will definately help Sony sell some consoles.

I think XBL has a ton of good features incorporated into the system. With 6 millions subscribers, I don't think they need to worry about competing.

It won't stay free for long. You can't keep that much data and constant streaming even on multiple servers with a huge back-end dept to maintain it. They start chargin for it the minute advertising drops. And ads will begin to drop or not even appear at all because people won't go to it. My wife doesn't even play game and when I showed her the video she just said, "that seem like work instead of play!" She hit it right on the money!

It really isn't necessary, this home thing sounds cool but I need to see people using it, like real people and actually have it delivered. Sony likes to make promises. But it still doesn't beat the integration that Xbox live has with games. This was pretty much the talk of the Hotspot the other day where it was not possible to check messages or invite friends to games or even chat with friends like you can with xbox live. It is because MS has made this standard since the beginning. Also, where is the custom soundtrack support. The PS3 has a long way to go. this HOME thing is nice but come on, make it about the games!

first off sony did this to compete with the live anywhere, which actually wont compare when people start understanding live.

pc gamers and 360 gamers, can now work on one profile off of either system... lol and this 3d world of sony, isnt offereing anything like that, when it comes to online gamming. lol im sorry but MS has sony n every way.

shadow run for example halo2 for example.... hmmm, sony ps3, and what the psp. lol

sony isnt trying to top MS. that is not the case, sony is trying to catch up to MS.

ha, and the only reason sony even is in gamming is because they screwed nintendo over. thats right.

the original playstation was designed for an add-on for the super NES to counter sega,s saturn and sega cd.

but sony took the product put their name on it, and decided to leave NES out of it.

dont believe me look it up ask jeeves.

sony hasnt shown me much of anything this gen, and they claimed it was going to start with them, lol yeah i see evidence of that.

i dunno, i honestly think it's to early to tell weather or not this home thing will pick up. caus it could either be viewed as like a gimmik, and a second life rip off, or it could be wildly accepted and embrased as a real online comunity. it's just to hard to tell right now.

I think the whole idea of playing with people on windows vista will be much more exciting than walking around a virtual home with virtual character (sorry but the Sims is too lame for me). Just imagine how large our community will get when PC and 360 players will be able to play together!

HMM when i saw little big world, and ps Home they looked great, but i wont be getting a ps3 for a long time, inless my dad gets one with like 'Whatever'. But since ps2, whats happened to gaming, its all turned fancy now.Well of after Xbox maby. So il stick with xbox for now.... but time can only tell.i

they have no reason to get something like this, xbox live is very established in what it brings to the table, home may very well be a good idea until i see it in action i will reserve my judgement. But xbox has no reason to go out and start something thats not very proven in action by its users

We'll see how long it remains free or for how long the service remains anything but just okay. XBL dominates the Sony online service, I'll gladly keep paying a measly 4 bucks a month to get XBL thanks.

lol i think u are off a little, nintendo partnered with phillips after sony screwed them over, lol, sony came to nintendo to help them get in the gamming community, thats the historical facts. because back then nintendo was gamming. sega wasnt going to last, but im glad they were in it for as long as they were though, they had influences on some of the systems we love today. i was really pooling for sony to be a lot better than they were last gen with quantity over quality, but so far they have shown me nothing. i know i know its onl.y been out so long, but the 360 when it was out this long had already shown much, and sony had from 2000-2006 to work on that ps3, MS had from 2001-2005 to work on their 360, their should be no excuses. especially with all the money they made off of ps2

360 doesn't need it. I have a PS3 and i can careless about Home. I got the system to play awesome games not walk around talking to people that want to go to a virtual party instead of a real one.

Home is really just an MMO experience. MS could easily create one and tie it to your gamertag. Right now, I'm not too interested in home. I have a PS3 and will try and get into the beta next month. I want to at least give it a try. I'm glad Sony is doing something different than just copying Xbox Live.

Whatever... this is nothing to Microsoft honestly. I mean if Microsoft ever did something(HOME) like this, it would kill them. 6 million XBL users alone, then you'll have more once Vista becomes fully established with XBL users. I mean if MS did have something like this, when Halo 3/Gears of War 2 come out, no one is gonna go to HOME. They'd all talk through custom games, clan matches(hopefully GoW2 has this), and ranked matches. If I wanted to see your face, we'll just go play some uno or vid chat... you know how ridiculous it'll be for a guy to make a girl avatar on the PS3 and you have all these guys saying your hot? Or perhaps you have online predators? Maybe that's a little far fetched...

thats true, and i am glad that our other gamming brothers over in playstation land have finally got something that they paid for, and i hope they get alot more, lol times have changed and its not so much about who will monopolize the gamming industry, its more of a question of how much the gamming industry will monopolize over all entertainment. it is the fastest growing form, and definately the most money making one at that. the more great stuff sony puts out, the better the gamming community on that side of the pie chart, which makes the whole of gamming community better, and MS will put out something great to counter it and the pie chart constantly grows. i dont mean to be leaving the wii out, i was just using examples mainly there. i think that hollywood is suffereing from the gamming industry, no one really wants to make a great movie because they know that most of the people watching the movie are sitting there thinking about how they cant wait to get home to play their videogame.

It's not necessary,xbox live is better as it mixes with each game,where as 'home' takes you away from your game experience ans then drops you into it,causing a pause between everything,or at least that's from what i can tell.

1. Idea's great, Sony developing a good idea into a good TRUE fulfillment, not so much. Whether it'll be rushed, over promise and under-deliver wouldnt suprise me at all.

2. These are GAME consoles, not chat systems. Without games, PS3 could put a blender on that back of the machine and that wouldn't make a lick of difference to me.

3. The part I do think is outstanding is the theatre part and inviting a community to your living room. Neat idea, worth having a $600 system, AND your firends obviously have to buy one too. AND i'm suspricious of what content they will be able to provide, I think Xbox has really taken a lot of the market first. Advertisments aannoyned me too. Granted Xbox runs adds detailing the new stuff released, but if Sony's thinking of slapping Mountain Dew all over the place, forget it!

I agree. I just want to jump into my games. Not wait and load some virtual sims world just accomplish these simple tasks. Its still no XBL but at least thier trying to do something. Now if they would only get some games out so that people could actually have a reason to use this application.
