I am thinking about buying a xbox 360, but have been reading about the RROD, and I'm getting a little cautious about whether I should or not. My uncle got one 2 years ago and it hasn't it got the ring yet, and it's been through alot. So, if I buy one now would it be more reliable than if I bought it ayear or so ago, or would it just be the same?

M$ recently changed the chip set for a more reliable model. I also recommend the 360 now!

I own all three consoles, and the 360 is easily the one I play most. I had my 360 for all three years and it just got the RROD, and that was with the older chipset. Go with the 360.

I would have to say NO. You're taking a big risk if you do. I got my first Xbox 360 2 years ago. The first one lasted little less than a year. It just stopped recognizing all my 360 games. Luckily it was still under warranty so they sent me a new one. This new consol only had a 6 month warranty. After a year the video output went out completely. I talked to microsoft over the phone and they told that they could repair it for $99 since the warranty ran out. I'm already pretty pissed off about loosing 2 consoles in 2 years, so i decided to wrap the machine in towells and let it cook for about 30 min each day for about a week until I finally got the 3 RROD. Bam! RROD = Extended 3 year warranty. Worked like a charm.

To sum it all up I'm waiting for my 3rd xbox 360 in just a little over 2 years. These problems are still happening TODAY. I know a few people at this exact moment that are waiting for their new unreliable Xbox 360 machine to come back to them after getting hit with the RROD. They say they upgraded it to fix this problem, however my latest one, just a year old, had a video card that went out. So other issues still , plus brand new problems are now popping up! This was a horrible investment. I wish I would of chose the ps3 to begin with hands down

haha. Where I live Microsoft warranty means **it (Microsoft simply doesn't bring services here) but there are individuals who fix RROD for like $5. Yes, I live in heaven!

This. I've had both 360 and PS3. Both broke twice, but at least Microsoft gave me back a console in good condition with a fresh 3 year warranty, AND they didn't charge me 161 dollars for repairs after my crappy 90 day warranty. That's why I'm switching back to the 360.
