Im really interested in the Xbox 360. It looks like it is the best next-gen console by far but I have been reading some really uneasy customer reviews which are making me dout that I should get this.. People have been complaining about some rings of death and microsoft not doing anything when you send your console back to be repared. Has this happened to anybody or is this just a big joke? if so, do you think it's worth getting a Xbox 360 even though it has this problem and can you suggest some methods I should take from stopping these rings of death from appearing?

I would wait until the smaller chips are put in the 360 before buying one. However I have had one since launch with no problems.

I've had mine since launch, no problems.

If you take care of it (i.e not placing it inside an oven whilst playing etc.) you should be fine.
In all those 360 horror stories, people neglect to say that they were playing it with the 360 in an air-tight container or something.

if you get a 360 with an hdmi in it it should have a new heatsink which solve the overheating problem so as long as it says HDMI on the box you should be good.

dude the reason that the red ring of light happens is due to overheating that means ppl dont take care of their 360, so if u take care of it ull have no problem, plus the red ring of ligt happens to only maybe 35% of ppl

Dude you've got:

1. A 1 year warranty that covers all damages
2. A 3 year warranty that covers any 3 rings of death errors (if you get 3 red lights instead of the usual green light)
3. Bioshock
4. If you do get a 360 makes sure you get the Premium version due to future games requiring the Harddrive and its better believe me.
5. If you have High speed DSL or Cable internet service, then buy one year of Xbox live Gold or 3 months (360 comes with a month free anyway)
6. Get a play and charge kit for the wireless controller (if you get the Xbox 360 package or Elite not the Core)

Also when is your B-day (if you don't mind me asking)?

I really hate when people say you get the red lights only because of bad care to the system, that is not only the case. I treated my 360 like it was my baby and guess what, I still got the RROD.

BUT, back to the topic at hand... I have gotten the three red lights and you know what? although it bothers me how this is even an issue, I still stand behind Microsoft because of their excellent library of games and exclusives as well as their superb online capabilities.

Deltoid covered it pretty well, as to the reasons

How to take care though, is keep the system ventilated and if you are worried about the RROD and not being able to play your 360 while its sent in for repairs, shell out a little extra for a warranty from the store its bought at because with their warranty you can go in the day it breaks and get a new one.

I would say 100% that even with its problems, the 360 is the best system to date as far as games and online goand would recommend you get it.

You mightt have treated it like a baby, but if you had it in an enclosed space with low ventilation, it is only a matter of time before you get it. Treating it like a baby wont help if you have it in an oven. You have to treat it like a god and put it on it's own altar of glory overlooking all other things of your living room, or where ever you have it. Treat it like a god, and you will play like one. Treat it like a baby, and you will have to change the daiper... a lot. I change my 3 month kid over 8 times in a day, my X360 has been on it's own stand far from it's own PSU and fully ventilated since it left the box over a year ago.

Usually the people with red rings of death don't take good care of their Xboxes. Buy one and just but it in a nice cool place and you should be set for some great gaming;)

make sure to keep the 360 from over heating which is basically dont put it on carpet, dont put anything near the sides and back of the 360 so it can vent air and the most important rule dont hit your 360 or throw the controller!.

well... it has the best games as of right now... as it being the best next gen system by far... ummm i wouldnt jump the gun so fast....the system itself is annoying...i have been through 3 systems... as for preventging it... its more on the side of luck then doing anything... you can do things like keep it well ventilated but i did that so... its basically just luck..if this is the only console that appeals to u then yea get it... but if u want the best system (not just now but down the road) it would be best for u to just wait a few... id assume gettin both is not a choice for u

Just get it dont worry. If the system breaks you can get another one and maybe by that time it will be replaced with the upgraded chip. Fanboys are not only at Gamespot so dont trust every customers review. With a 3 years warranty you should feel at ease.

Implying that yould put your baby in the oven?

Didnt think so, keeping it ventilated and such is what I meant by treating it like a baby, meaning I took every precaution because I wanted it to grow into a full grown 360 boy

Just buy it. The system is great and the games coming are even better, plus you have the 3-yr warranty. Just give it some space of it's own to keep it well ventilated and you will be fine. Don't stick it next to your TV or anything thats going to produce un-needed heat for it. I've had mine for over a year and kept good care of it without a single problem. It's great!
