I'm thinking about getting a 360 and its a lot of fun. I played the demo of Dirt today and I thought it was great, and it really got me thinking about the 360.

I'd like to buy one, but I'm concerned about the life of the system. Have the 360's been improved at all to help prevent them failing? I'm not about to spend my time having to return one every 2 months. My cousin is on his 4th and he first got his in November. Not all of them for red rings but for one reason or another, stuck disc drive, overheating, etc...

So the real thing holding me back is the reliability. Has it, or is it getting better?

Yes it's getting better and will continue to improve. Also if you have the money - The Elite seems to be more reliable according to reviews due to a newer revision on the CPU, GPU and Motherboard.

Warranty turn around is usually between 7 to 10 days. Which is actually good for a turn around - I know it doesn't feel like when you are jonesin to play though. :)

I am in the same boat. I'm still waiting for them to fix a few problems endemic to the system that, for whatever reason, they have not fixed yet. There still seem to be a few fundamental flaws in how the 360 was engineered. It is a shame really, since the 360s game library is so far, by far, the most impressive of the next gen systems. Without getting into theories of the specifics, ancedotal evidence from friends who are on their 2nd or 3rd system suggests that while some problems may have been fixed, there are still a few major flaws the make the failure rate for the 360 continue to be unacceptably high.

I'll be shipping my console out for repairs for the 2nd time. Console last 6 months and then 3 months after they repaired it the first time. Warranty repair took 2 weeks last go round.

Well - hopefully the new heatsink that they have just started adding to repair consoles will eliminate any more problems for you all. I had my launch system crap out but have had great luck since then. :)
