i am a ps3 slim owner and i'm thinking of buying an xbox 360 slim (not trading in my ps3 though) but i'm tight on money right now so i'll have the money for it by the first or second week of august and i'm wondering what the differences are (besides cross game chat and the subscription fee). keep in mind that i've been a playstation guy ever since the ps1 days so i've never bought or owned an xbox.

edit: one more question, if/when i do buy the xbox 360 slim, would the xbox 360 slim be fine if a sat my ps3 slim on top of it or should i stand it up next to my ps3?

If you have a ps3 why would you fork out for another consolewhich is pretty much the same?

because some of the good features and games that are on the xbox 360 aren't on the ps3

Well, obviously it has different exclusives to PS3. Multiplatform games often are slightly better than their PS3 counterpart in terms of visuals and performance (lazy ports on PS3 version sometimes, good example is The Orange Box, though I believe it's been patched now). Differences tend to be minute anyway.

Like you said, you'll likely want to subscribe to XBL Gold. This let's you play online MP, use cross-game chat, access to certain deals on Arcade games/DLC etc.

I wouldn't put anything on top of the slim 360, a lot of the vents are places on the top.

If you do buy a slim 360, be aware it only comes with a composite cable (SD), so you'll probably want to pick up another HDMI/Component/VGA cable or something.

Edit: If you're in the US you can also use Netflix and now Hulu I believe. I don't live there so I'm not sure how that all works though.

And the 360 controller is quite different to dualshocks; a fair bit 'bulkier' and it has what I think are better triggers for the R2 button. The D-pad on the 360 controller isn't very good (especially for fighters), though you can buy a new controller design that supposedly remedies this.

unless for exclusives..theres no point in buying the xbox 360. I've had both...then I sold the 360. The exclusives on the ps3 r amazing and there's infamous 2 and uncharted 3 coming out soon...for xbox gears is fine, crackdown is a fun game s well. fable series is amazing. bt i donno they jz don seem worth buying the console IMO.

i do not own a ps3 and most likely wont because i'm happy with just my xbox/PC/DS. So all i can say is different is the excluisves.

but your second question is hell no. Sitting your ps3 on top of the 360 would smash it and kill it because the fan is built on top of the console when laying down.

someone talked about hdmi cable above just remember hdmi cables are all the same so don't buy the hdmi cable with microsoft name on it because you think that one is the only one will work. Also remember cables in stores has one of the highest mark up's in price from what it cost to produce them. It's sad. buy cable in a store for 20-30 plus but i promise that cables cost dollar or two to make. so just get one off ebay.

I own all 3 systems and the 360 is my favorite. DO NOT put one on top of the other. That could result in major overheating.

The chat and party system for Xbox is way better than PS3s. The subscription fee sucks but if you buy a year of XBL it is not much to worry about. also people who play fps games on the 360 do seem to be bettter.

Guys....OP didn't ask for your opinion on whether he should get a 360.

Anyways, I wouldn't lay them on top of one another. I have my 360 horizontal but it really doesn't matter unless you knock it to the floor so standing up should be fine. As for differences I would say install any game your going to play for a decent while (if your HDD is big enough). It doesn't take as long as on the PS3 and almost every game has improved load times. Can't really think of anything else except my friends who own both consoles like the xbla chat better than the psn chat.

I have both a PS 3 and a 360 (bought mine so I could play Splinter Cell: Conviction). Not really anything different except for the stuff you mentioned. I don't recommend putting one console on top of the other. That could result in some major overheating. Put the 360 in a separate place. If you look around, you might be able to find a good deal on a 360 bundle. Wal-Mart usually has good deals on gaming bundles. One little piece of advice though, if you're thinking of going with a refurbished 360, BE VERY CAREFUL. More chances for RROD. I'd just go with a brand new console.

This would be better off in System Wars as you've opened the discussion up for a comparison between the 360 and PS3, which isn't allowed on this board.
