Need help with buying a monitor for gaming and perhaps a lecture on all this HD, aspect ratio, 1080p, blah blah, stuff.

Samsung 2233BW 22" Widescreen

I don't care for HD. In college, so it makes sense. But I'm just wondering what I need to connect my 360 to the monitor and if I do buy speakers also. What chords, cables, and adapters do I need? I've heard all this VGA and DVI mumbo jumbo and I'm not up to speed on what aspect ratios are and what those numbers 20,000:1 or 1680 x 1050 mean!

I just don't want to bite the big one and be surprised. This is my first time with a monitor though...

1080p is the display rate and type, basically it means it displays 1080 lines of resolution progressively, instead of 1080i which displays 540 lines twice. 20000:1 is the contrast ratio, whites white, colours brighter. 1920x1080 or anything of the like is the total resolution, basically how many pixels horizontal and vertical respectively.

anyone who knows more feel free to correct/change/add anything
