even though your either new to the forums, or just created a new account, to let you know this board has seen many of these topics, several in the last day or two. Use the search forum or hell, even look back to page 2-8, im sure you'll find a couple. there is also the sticky at the top of the forum for broken 360 discussion.

but to be nice and answer your question,i will be sending my 3rd 360 in the next few days (should get the box tomorrow), and then i'll be on my 4th.

EDIT: and as far as maintaining it....other than keeping it in a cool ventilated area, there isn't much you can do other than call MS when/if you get the 3 red lights, and send it in for repairs. thats pretty much your only option unless you have the money and want to trade it in and buy another 360.

Fourth. 1st one lasted 3 months (didn't have to trade it in, thought its problems were unique... they weren't). 2nd one died of DVD Drive failure. Exchanged the 3rd one 5 days after its purchase because it was showing tons of artificing. Just got the 4th one tonight, seems fine so far. Keep it well ventilated and don't move it while a dvd is inside. That's pretty much all you need to do, any problems that still occur are inherent and unavoidable.

O.O, NO!!! don't do that. I heard that the fans turn on automatically from an internal powersource (ghosts). they will heat up the box and it will either catch on fire, or asplode.

I am on my 2nd, my first got the ring of death last week without the warranty, though I was going to trade it in for an Elite anyway.

I'm still on my first. I really haven't done anything special to maintain it I just keep it in a well ventilated area and thats about it I guess.

I guess i'm lucky because my 360 has being going strong since day 1 i've had it since April 2006 and it hasn't even froze on me once, I think alot of the broken 360's come from carelessness

yes thats exactly right, the majority are due to carelessness. thats exactly why the majority of people that own a 360 have more than likely owned a console b4 360, alot of them with no problems with that console. its why microsoft is footing a 1+ billion dollar bill. MS has basically flat out said it themselves, its due to faulty hardware, its a proven fact. yes there are people who don't put their console in the best places, but to say alot of them....no.

to further my point. My first 360 was on a wooden platform, it had all sides exposed to nothing but open air, it broke. the second one i kept on the floor infront of the TV, probably about 2 feet away from it maybe. although i think that xbox came shipped back to me defective, it only lasted a couple days. My 3rd one lasted me a year and then some, only to break just last week. this one was vertical, again, nothing was around it besides my PS3 a ways over on the other side of the entertainment center. thats 3 times i had my 360 in different areas, out of those 3 times one of them should have kept it from getting the 3 red lights....but no.

As i said, some people are careless i agree, but this is not the reason why soo many 360's are having problems

I recommend that you type X360 instead of Xbox, it confuses people like myself as this is a next-gen console not the original XBOX. The best way to maintain a 360 is not to play it too long per day even though the console has cheap stuff in it and its made from China. Never open your 360 using anything at all which voids your warranty as it is need for future problems. Never put your 360 directly in the sun, keep it in a cool place, not in the cool room, like a room that isn't that hot.

Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to have semi-passive cooling for the GPU/CPU anyway? A fan blowing directly on the two chips and then venting would have been MUCH more efficient and we wouldn't have one tiny ioda of overheating problems. The DVD drives are unacceptably loud and unreliable as well. As much as I love the 360's raw power and massive panoply of games, the design itself is crap. It does look cool, at least.
