I know this has been asked before, but I heard people say that vertical placement of the 360 can cause more problems...is this true...Please give me some helpful advice or perhaps state whether you put your 360 horizontal or vertical? Thanks much...also if you want a friend to play gears of war 2 with, leave your gamertag yeah? I need friends on my new xbox 360..thanks a lot.

I have almost always had my 360 vertical. I have never heard of that affecting the 360 itself just make sure it is properly ventilated

i think that its better horizontal... there's not really a point to having vertical. horizonal means that the xbox will probably have to work harder working standing up

I've had 4 xboxs 3 of em i had vertical and they all red ringed thr 4th which I have had for 7-9 months now WHich I have horizontal and its been running ok, but I dont think thats why they messed up though. FOr me I go horizontal now because of the way I now have things set up. But I must admit my xbox does seem to stay cooler being horizontal..

I Allways have it horizontal and don't bump it while it's on. Theres an hard egde inside the CD drive, if you knock it while it's on your games can get scratched. Thought its better to have the CD running flat not sideways. Keep it ventalated and not on too long, it will melt itself. Never had a RROD.

My xbox broke being horizontal.  Now I prop it up off the table, still horizontal though.

yeah i did some more google research...seems like one poll made it show it didnt really matter...thanks much for the contribution though...vertical makes the 360 look freakin sexy. it makes it look thinner to me...horizontal jus makes it look bigger for some reason..yeah im weird like that haha

AHHHHHHHH GUYS!

DONT HAVE YOUR XBOX 360 VERTICAL!!!

I had my first xbox vertical for about a month and then somebody tripped over it and RROD showed up. My second one was vertical and then I heard a clack noise and when I opened it up my Oblivion disc got pwned to pieces. My local game shop told me to NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER have your 360 vertical. Now I keep it horizontal and I haven't had a problem for about two years. Also I heard that your discs are slowly scratched while in vertical.

As for the over-heating problem, mine sits on carpet in Queensland but its fine. Also my friend told me about a cooler fan that you can attach to the back which is quite cheap too.

when my 360 was horizontal the bottom got extremely hot. It was getting hot enough to start causing in-game performance issues(freezing, sluggish performance). Called Microsoft about it and they told me to try it vertical. Haven't had a problem since and it keeps much cooler on that side.

It makes no difference, it's a personal preference. Take these bias guys with a grain of salt, theres no evidence having it vertical cause RROD or will chew up a disk (a little rediculous). Just make sure no vents are blocked and that it's well ventilated. If you do have it vertical, just make sure it's safe and not in danger of being knocked over.
