PGR4 DEVS HAVING TROUBLE FITTING GAME ON DVD9! PGR4 devs are having trouble fitting all the track data on a dual layer DVD. I always wondered why MS never used Blu-ray or HD-DVD for games DVD9 is going to show its limits very soon. I knew it would happen eventually. ANd yes MS can use Blu-ray because Sony doesnt own it, they just support it.

I mean what are games like Fable 2 and Fallout 3 going to be like if they wont fit on a DVD and then corners have to be cut. This is why Fable the original lost a lot of content cause Moyneux wanted to do things on a huge scale but DVD was limiting. They have found a work around but at what cost? Will physics and Graphics be crippled because of Disc space?

Whats Gears 2 gonna be like? And this is exactly why the first Gears was so short, disc space matters, and I dont feel like being nickled and dimed by MS if in the future we have to download extra content that the PS3 gets on the disc because of space limitations that DVD9 has.

Whta do you guys think? I think MS should have thought about the future and not rushed the 360 just to get a head start.

Umm, no. Sony does NOT own Blu Ray. They are a heavy backer/investor of Blu Ray, but they do not own it.

"So we've worked around the problem by providing different lighting models per city."

I have no idea why they want to make different textures for the day/night levels of the maps. Hello, there are some amazing things you can do with lighting. Now this is all you are going to hear in SW.

My guess is that using different textures for each map probably looks better. Changing the lighting alone tends to give them a more generic look.

Well when I compare PGR3 and Forza 2, I'm not worried at all. PGR3 sucked IMO, I'd much rather play Forza2 1) it has better graphics 2) WAY better customization and they had no problems fitting Forza 2 and Oblivion on so I'm not worried at all

Game development is all about compromise. Even on a Blu-Ray disc.

Personally, if MS had put an HD-DVD drive in the 360 and charged $499-599 for it, I would still not have a 360 because that's just too much for a game system IMO. So if this is consequence ....... I can live with that.

Agreed. Nothing's wrong with putting a game on mulitiple disks. Like FF7,FF8, and FF9 came on four disks. Shenmue for the Dreamcast had four disks. So I don't see a problem with multiple disks. Like if they need about two or three for the main story campaign and one disk for online play then it will all still be good. In my opinion.

I agree MS made a huge mistake with not having an HD optical drive and a HDD on every system...why they took a step back and offered a console with out an HDD kills me since every Xbox 1 had it and developers and gamers loved it...

In two years time it is LIVE that is only going to keep this system alive...

They should put like the single player or w/e on 1 disc, and the mp component on another, that should save alot of space.

"omg, sony just won teh w@rs, teh cell!!!".......umm yeah, if it is really that big of a problem, they can always put single player on one disc and multiplayer on another, AS LONG AS THE GAMES AWESOME (which seems to lack on that "other" machine) it doesnt really matter, one of my favourite games from last gen was one multiple disks, RE4.

It could, but again if they could really nail down some amazing light effects I don't think it would be that much worse. They could also put a "night pack" for free on the marketplace and just let us DL it to the HDD. Idk, I just want to play the dam thing.

Yeah, that was my first thought about it too. If the multiple versions of levels are not hard for them to do (which supposedly the dev said it wasn't a problem) why not ship the game without as many night levels and then come out with a Night level pack? Seriously...

If so this would not effect all 360 games. Maybe they will change it up with PGR5.

Should start creating games on HD-DVD and 2 DVD9's at the same time, to do the gamers buy the hd-dvd player or get the game divided in 2 dvd9s if they can't afford the hddvd

Have 2 discs. One would have the exe. and other vital files. The other would contain Textures and lighting as well as tracks. Therefor bypassing any problems and speeding load times. The only thing is you may need to clear some of your HDD. But it should not be more than 2 GB total.

Just because you have the rights does not mean that the creator cannot sell rights to anyone else. UNLESS the creator was DUMB enough to do an exclusive. But that is not the case. There are BRD movies and not all are Sony Pictures. In other words they do not OWN it.

Why you would suggest BRDs I don't know. The 360 is not compatible due to disc drives. Unless you want to buy a $200-$300 add on. In other words. Installing is the future. It will help load times. The problem is it will take you space on your HDD.
