I am about to buy an X360. I have access to higfh speed internet for live (had live 2 yrs ago on xbox). I also have a monitor which I will be playing on, which supports 1280X1024 - 720P for you non-tech guys.

I am stuck on the game decision of Gears or Oblivion. One thing that should sway me is gear's online newbie-friendliness. Is it a complete slaughter house on there, or will it not take me long to be playing and having fun, or better yet, do people host newbie games?

Yes...you will get owned. No...people won't be nice to you and when you tell them it's your first time playing they'll probably make more fun of you. It took me a few days a frustration to get over the learning curve, but after that the games a lot of fun.

Play through the single player first and then start off by playing a few player matches. After you get used to the gameplay, levels, etc. try playing ranked matches. If you go directly to playing ranked, and your not that good, everyone will most likely make fun of you and your teammates will probably be mad. The community is not that forgiving.

i would advise you to buy gears. yeah u might meet some Tw@ts there but some of the other guys on there are quite cool. and y not w8 till the elite comes out before you get your 360 nothing beats a sexy black console which might be more stable than the ones out now. but its up 2 you

1280-1024 isn't 720P, tech-genius.

Yes, you'll get owned and people wont be nice at all, hell... if you're that bad you'll even be kicked out of games. My suggestion is to complete the game on insane by yourself. Then when online, try to learn the maps, where the grenades are, etc.

BTW 720p is 1280x720 not 1024 but since you'll be playing in a monitor, the VGA cable also supports that resolution

Yeah, because teamwork is greatly emphasized. And if your not helping your team, things can get nasty.

If you get Gears of War it would be best to play some campaign first as it will help you get used to the controls. If you go on-line, yes lots of people are good on-line, just watch TTV (Tournament TV) this week and have a look for yourself. If you want to have an advantage though, host a game yourself as you will have host advantage and will be able to kill others easier.
