yes it was. core design made angel of darkness in 2003. a new team was called in and crystal dynamics made legend in 2006Because it is a well established series with a well established fan base. Also, Legends is not considered a reboot.

you are still not understanding.legend was a reboot, even the developers said so. look it up!A new studio does not constitute a classification of reboot. Halo 4 is not being classified as a reboot by 343 Industries.

It's also the first major series starring a woman and because of that Lara Croft is kind of like a VG icon. It was also one of if not the first 3D action/adventure game and really helped out the Playstation in it's early days.Because it is a well established series with a well established fan base. Also, Legends is not considered a reboot.

It is important to keep up with the changing times. Yes I do recall that Lara croft Tomb Raider Legend was considered a Re-imaging of sorts. More of a refreashing of the series rather than a reboot of the series. Getting Laura back on track. This game was released in 2006 on Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and PSP. The developer interviews at the time wanted to return the series to it's original format. I cannot quite remember if it is a reboot in the sense that the game discards the timeline/cannon of the previous Tomb raider games.
But the 2013 is a reboot since it takes place before the 1996 original Tomb Raider.

its was one of their biggest franchises back in the day, I guess they figure it can still sell well, I think it can sell 1-3 million if done right personally, but I am iffy on the game until they show us some combat and not some quick time event stuff.to my knowledge that has been rebooted twice. I hate to be "that guy", but Metroid was one of the first IPs to have a woman as the player character.
Up until Lords of Shadow, Castlevania followed a single timeline. As that is the case, it's only been rebooted once. Also, its not the only series to be rebooted twice. Castlevania has gone through multiple reboots for example. Sonic has gone through a couple and Crash Bandicoot has gone through a few.

Heh, yeah that's true, even though it wasn't really a focus like with tomb raider.[QUOTE="Schreek"]It's also the first major series starring a woman and because of that Lara Croft is kind of like a VG icon. No it isn't. Lara Croft is admittedly a bigger icon, butYuko Ahso from Valis and Samus from Metroid are two female characters that come to mind that were around well before Tomb Raider. Also Ms Pacman...

Ms. Pacman is a yellow dot, Valis was not a major series, and Samus was never truly portrayed as a woman as she had a suit of armor covering her, making her character seemingly androgenous. It's also the first major series starring a woman and because of that Lara Croft is kind of like a VG icon. You should read the interaction between cain and me above. Samus did come first but like Schreek said Samus' reveal and appeal as a woman was so kept to a minimum and almost hidden. She was a 16 bit sprite. Croft had short shorts and was deemed a female adventurer with more force than Samus was for quite a while.[QUOTE="Blueresident87"][QUOTE="firefox59"] It's also the first major series starring a woman and because of that Lara Croft is kind of like a VG icon. Croft was the first female character to become a true icon in video games, sure. But even with the way Samus was revealed, it had a huge impact because it was such a surprise and people expected the character to be male.
I would argue Samus being revealed to be a woman was far more important for female video game characters than Lara Croft clearly starring in one. Just because she was a '16 bit sprite' doesn't change the fact that the hero turned out to be a heroine

You could technically call any game that redesigns the game from the ground up a reboot ( or refresh, etc ).This would be another reboot of the TR franchise but there are many franchises that have done this
For example Ghost Recon got a reboot with GR Advanced Warfighter, & then you could say another reboot with GR Future Solider. Rainbow6 got a reboot with Rainbow 6 Vegas, & now a another Rainbow 6 reboot is coming next year.
Besides that you could look at any sequel that is not the exact same & call it a reboot. Splinter Cell Conviction, Mario sunshine, Mario 64, & Super Mario Galalxy were all different so maybe you could call them reboots as well.
What about Resident Evil 4? Red Faction Guerilla? Red Dead Redemption? Deus EX HR? I dont know but there are alot of games you could classify as a reboot.
Franchises have fanbases, & alot of franchises are so good, have a great soul that people love & so should live forever, if the development team can keeping finding ways to keep them relevent. Just as i love to eat pizza, i think pizza should live forever.

You're focusing on the wrong thing here. This isn't a metroid thread. I said Lara Croft was an icon in my post. While I was technically wrong, I was implying that she was the first female in a 3D game like a wrote later in the post. But that isn't the point. I'm not dissing Metroid here or Samus' fame in the VG community. Don't act like I am. Just saying that there is a reason why Tomb Raider is being rebooted and it's justified.I'm pretty sure Sonic and Mega Man have received a few reboots.vashkeySonic, maybe, but I'm pretty sure all of the Mega Man games from Mega Man through Mega Man ZX all take place in a single timeline. Remember the timeline is the all important factor when determining a "reboot." A retelling of the origin story and everything that comes after it. Mega Man progressed from Mega Man> Mega Man X> Mega Man Zero> Megaman ZX(I don't know much about Legends or Battle Network, but always figured them for gaiden stories- offshoots that have no place within the actual cannon). Tomb Raider on the other hand had always been about Lara Croft- an english noblewoman who moonlights as a ruin diving adventuress. The new Tomb Raider seems to be about Lara Croft- an average modern english college student who finds herself marooned on an island and fighting for her life. Now admittedly, she had no origin story in her original timeline, but her entire past seems to have been changed.
