I would definitely suggest looking at XBLA or XBLIG. And they are still there, but spread over a bunch of platforms and hidden by more popular games.
Now to the off topic part. Why do we call certain shooters "realistic shooters"? We don't call Gran Tourismo or Forza "realistic racing games". No, we call them "racing simulators" because that is what they do, they simulate real things. So shouldn't we call certain shooters "shooting simulators"?
I'm not a big shooter fan, but doesn't it fell like there are a bunch of shooters being released, but no cartoony games anymore? Every week or two a new shooter will come out, but we haven't gotten a decent Mario-like game on the Xbox 360 in years. The first (and last) one was Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. What happened to all those good cartoon styled games?PictureGameCasual cartoon games are marketed mostly for the Wii. Xbox users are more hardcore gamers and so they tend to have the type of games those people want.. You might want to think about buying a wii, otherwise it may be few and far between for the games u want.

We are in desperate need of more strategy games and platformers. I don't really like the cartoony look but anything other than CoD-type shooters is a welcome change.

I understand what ur saying and I am not judging u. Those types of games just sell better on other platforms. That's why most of the games like that r marketed as dlc rather than full retail releases.

[QUOTE="Agent_Kaliaver"]The only shooting simulator I can think of is Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising Then everything else would fit into arcade shooter wouldn't it? I know many people have called BC2 and realistic shooter (which obviously means more realistic then some), but considering how it isn't trying to be realistic it probably could be classified as an arcade shooter.I would definitely suggest looking at XBLA or XBLIG. Actually, u have a good point, except that I find Battlefield to be a much more realistic game than any Call of Duty I have played.{at least in terms of the M.P.} yeh, there is no way that CoD is in front of Battlefield. In battlefield you cant have a grenade fall off your body every time you die...I'm not a big shooter fan, but doesn't it fell like there are a bunch of shooters being released, but no cartoony games anymore? As many have said, XBLA will pretty much satisfy your some of your needs. You'll be surprised at the amount of great stuff on there. Personally, I'm getting sick of all the shooter overload as well. Would it really kill Microsoft to think about getting more good X360 retail exclusives aren't shooters or racers? NOt that I don't like putting bullets in virtual people, but some diversity would be nice.
I've been seeing brown, gray, and red for a while now. At least there's some purple and blue in Halo. Most of my Xbox 360 library is made up of 2 genres. I'm very glad I still have my Wii, or I'd have missed out on awesome stuff like SMG 2 and DKCR.
Great stuff on XBLA: Super Meat Boy, Castle Crashers, Braid, Plants vs Zombies, and anything developed by Twisted Pixel. The only good retail platformer right now that you can get is de Blob 2, even if it's a multiplatform title. I bought it a few days ago, and I'd very much recommend it to anyone looking for a change of pace. It's an easy game, but I was invredibly satisfied to see that much color on my screen while playing on the X360. It's also quite a funny game.

This still brings up my primary point. Can we call them realistic? Would they not be, just like racing games, simulators? I really just want to know why we call shooters "realistic", but call racing games "simulators". I don't necessarily care what each game is classified as inside of its own genre, or that there is a spectrum (which there is). I just want to know why we have decided to use different words for separate genres to try and mean the same thing. A racing game is a simulator because it tries to simulate reality. And realistic shooter is realistic because it strives to simulate reality. WHY DO THEY HAVE DIFFERENT TERMS THEN!?!?!?!?! And back onto the topic (Because it seems like I may have made this get a little too far off). I do agree we need more games that aren't shooters or don't want to be shooters. With that said there are plenty of games out that aren't like those, but it would be nicer to see a lot more higher profile ones.Too many shooting games, too many beautiful women, too much money ,and my 'ol Vette is too dang fast.........NO SUCH THING, not now, not ever!

As appose to a realistic shooter, which provides a realistic view on what happens when someone gets shot. Its about wording and semanticsTo be honest I feel like simulation sounds better. First off there are barely any "realistic shooters" and no I don't count Call of Duty and Battlefield as "realistic" shooters.
I just feel that "realistic" should define a game that is being set to be nearly 1 to 1 as it is in real life (like no racing game can be "realistic" if it isn't played with a steering wheel, and on the other hand the controller simulates the steering wheel).
Simulation on the other hand makes me think of something that is entirely not real, but can have parts that may try to be real. For example, you can have a simulation of possible events. Those events may or may not really happen.
And I think a First Person Shooter Sim doesn't sound that bad, just like the Combat Sim in Perfect Dark didn't sound bad. And in that game that was a take on a possible occurrence in the field. If they had labeled it "Realistic Combat" It gives an entirely different impression, and doesn't make it seem as fake or as possibly unrealistic as a simulation can be.
