My favourite video game character has always been, and probably will always be:

Garrett from the Thief series.

1. Benjamin/Anthony Carmine - Gears of War 1&2 - The straightest character in the game, is able to reincarnate himself, his only weakness is pre-rendered cutscenes (ex. Beserker, helicopter crash, RAAM shooting him, sniped in the head, being devoured by flood like insects"
2. Commander Shepard - Mass Effect - This character is formed by you, and he show's your decisions, your personality, and what you prefer best. You make the character, what makes him one of the best.
3. Arterius Saren - Mass Effect - Best antagonist ever, his motivations as a character are really interesting, even though he's misguided.
4. Marcus Fenix - Gears of War 1&2 - I don't really have a good reason here, he is just tough as nails
5. Andrew Ryan - Bioshock - All of the recordings, expecially the slide-show you see at the opening, his ideals are what made Bioshock.
6. Niko Bellic - Grand Theft Auto 4 - Funny, awesome, Eastern European, this guy is full of win
7. GLaDOS - Portal - Awesome song at the end, and is just a computer version of your crazy future exwife.
8. Master Chief - Halo 1,2,&3 - Super Soldier with awesome looking armor. What's not to like?
9. Alyx Vance - Half-Life 2 - Awesome sidekick that is really supportive, plus she offers good advice and guns.
10. Sergeant Johnson - Halo 1,2,& 3 - We've seen sergeants who are tough, gritty, and have clever sayings for everything.But it never gets old.
