No it's not. L4D multiplayer modes are more fun (my opinion). Especially trying to get all golds in survival mode with friends. I don't know it plays on live though. I have it for PC, but it's probably the same.
I don't think Left for Dead has much replay ability, there's 4 campaigns and its all the same. Shoot the zombie and get to the room. The only thing to do is achievments

I have, survival is even worse just shoot the zombies and versus just isnt that good
Stay with Left 4 Dead. As far as I know they're not adding anything new to Gears 2 aside from the new maps this summer. L4D will probably have new DLC by the end of this year to keep all of it's players on their servers.
If you've already played the crap out of L4D, Gears 1 is an amazing game. The campaign will only take you like 6 hours on casual, 8-9 on insane, but there is a lot of replayability. The entire campaign is playable in online or split co-op. The multiplayer still has players but its definitely more empty than it used to be. I think the multiplayer is awesome and I haveplayed it more than any other 360 game, but it is not AS good now due to the majority of players now being sniper idiots that dance around you taking 20 shots to try to blindfire your head off. I recommend getting Gears 1 then Gears 2 because they are both good games for different reasons. I hope this aids you on your purchase.
