I just watched a Major Nelson video where they went through the process of transfering data

from the Xbox to the Elite.

Anyone who has an Xbox 360 and wants to tranfer their data from the 360 to the Elite will get a free tranfer cable

by going to xbox.com and ordering one.

If this is old news, sorry. I'm sure there are some people who are still wondering about this though.

I posted this interview a week ago and everybody ignored me

Q: Will the Elite console come with one of these migration cables?
Mike Newey: We don't think there will be a lot of current Xbox 360 owners who want to buy an Elite console and transfer data from their old 20 GB hard drive, so there will not be a migration cable bundled with the Elite console. However, we know that some current Xbox 360 owners will want to upgrade to the Elite console, so if they get in touch with us we will be more than happy to supply a migration cable free of charge.

This is soo retarded..........  Now I have to have live forever..

Please keep in mind that licenses for downloaded content like Xbox LIVE Arcade games and TV shows from Video Marketplace are tied to your console not your hard drive. The hard drive transfer kit will move all data from your 20GB hard drive to your Xbox 360 Elite System's 120 GB hard drive, but due to data security provisions it cannot move the licenses associated with some content. This means that while all of your Xbox LIVE Arcade games and Xbox LIVE Marketplace TV shows will transfer, you will have to be connected to Xbox LIVE (to verify your identity) in order to access that content. This process is permanent-do not transfer your data if you wish to access it while offline.

Yep it's pretty ridiculous. I have a question though. Does this mean that new content you download, (IE new arcade games) you will also have to be connected to the internet to play? Or if you download the new arcade games, they will work offline on your new console?

This is not an issue. Any new things downloaded will already by tied to said console. It's only a problem for the old XBLA games, movies, and TV shows.

Porbably not because when apparently you download anything off of live, it creates some type of license on that xbox hardware.

I'm not really sure why these licenses aren't transferable.

Here is the form you have to fill out and mail in.  Seems like it could take a couple weeks to get this thing.  I think they should just have the kit at stores.

I bought the 120 GB hdd upgrade.  So, I've got the transfer kit sitting in a drawer now.

You can, but you will have to pay for it.

BTW. I think that it is rediculous that MS is making us mail in a form. Don't you think the leading software company could provide us with an online form. I mailed mine in over a week ago and still no transfer cable.
