I bought a 20 GB 360 Pro a few weeks ago. When you actually crack it open it's more like 12 GB. 12 GB is seriously not enough for me. I want to be able to install all the multi-disc games like Mass 2 and Forza 3 so I don't have to swap discs, and put a bunch of movies and music on there for when I bring my HDD to a friends place.

If I buy a 120 GB HDD, I assume I only need a transfer cable if I actually want the data on there, right? I could still buy a 120 GB HDD, recover my Gamertag, and play on, right?

Would I lose all my saved data, or is there a way besides the transfer cable to move my saved data over?

Also, can I use anyone's transfer cable, or is there something specific about them that keeps me from doing it? I know Microsoft usually sends them out by request.

Thanks!

You can recover your Gamertag but you will only get your Achievement points. your gave saves, demos, videos, etc...won't transfer over unless you use the transfer cable. Also, as far as I know, you can use any transfer cable. When you buy a 120gb HDD it usually comes with one though.

Awesome, that's what I was hoping. The only real content I have on there is the BFBC2 demo, but losing my full Mass Effect and partial Mass 2 and Gears 2 saves would suck. Can anyone confirm whether the new HDDs come with a xfer cable? Thanks again.

This will work lol. My fiance works at Wal-Mart. She's even returned old/broken controls for me. And I can confirm that new 120gb HDD come with a transfer cable. I got one for Christmas two years ago, make sure it's legit though because, most 120's are already gone. They are getting phased out from stores.

A memory card as in the 512 MB Microsoft variety? Because I'm pretty sure a standard USB flash drive or something won't work. Anyway if the HDDs come with a transfer cable then I don't need to worry about it. If not I will keep the 512 MB card in mind.

Ahh, well what is replacing them? I don't necessarily need 120, it can be bigger or smaller, but 20 GB formatted to 12 GB is laughable. I could probably install one disc of Mass 2 and my HDD would be full. 60 GB would do it, 250 would as well but it's kind of overkill, how much do they cost now? Also I'm aware of Wal-Marts return policy bahahaha, I've used it to my advantage many a time. ;)

I'm gonna take a stab that M$ is getting ready to release their 250gb HDD's soon. Otherwise you might be able to find one in a local store if you are lucky. I now the 60gb HDD's are still available though.

Ah I just solved my own problem... probably. I have a month of free Live right now, but I was planning on buying a card for 12+1 tomorrow. I just checked online and they sell 60 GB Live starter kits with a 60 GB HDD (obviously), 3 months of Live, a spare headset and what looks to be a transfer cable. This way I buy myself another 3 months of Live and get my bigger HDD in one shot. I can extend my Live to a year when the 3 months run out. Booya? I think so, unless there's something I missed.

ive have personally transferred my entire HDD twice (once from my original 20GB to a new 120GB, then from that 120 to another 120 when it semi-broke), its great, it takes every save, DLC, gamertag and game and moves it across. No license transfer or anything (assuming its on the same xbox).

The main thing you will be missing if you use a memory card is the non visible saves. Confused? I was too. I only realised this when playing Mass Effect 2. Apparently to import a character from ME1 you need a save that is especially created on the HDD you are using that cant actually be saved onto a memory card, only a transfer cable will move it across to the new HDD

Ooh badass, that's very important to note. I bought Mass and raced through it almost exclusively to create an import save, it would suck to lose that because I didn't get the Xfer cable. I am going to buy the 60 GB XBL starter kit tomorrow and install Mass 2 to my HDD. Sounds good.

The 60GB HDD Live Starter Kit Does Not come with a transfer cable. That cable is an Ethernet cord. I have been trying to find a 120GB myself specifically for the transfer cable but have had no luck recently.

Blah seriously? Weak. Sauce. If all transfer cables are the same, though, I can probably find one where I work. Why the hell would they include an ethernet cable? Doesn't the Arcade come with one? If not, that's the only scenario I can envision where an ethernet cable is helpful with your HDD and 3 months of Live.
