The form on MS's website to get a transfer kit asks for an elite serial number as if you're upgrading to an elite system...what if you just buy the 60GB HDD starter pack? I understand it was meant for people with arcade consoles to buy the HDD, but MS is not stupid enough to not realize that people with 20GB drives might want to upgrade too...they should have included a cable in the 60GB package....

Anyways...so has anyone trasnferred data from a 20GB to a 60GB with the transfer cable and does it actually work?

Well since you clearly only have one 360 what I would do is put the serial number of the New 60 Gb HardDrive and in parenthasis put HD purchased seperatley. That should work.
