I buy new games usually... but never from the an actual retail store (except for preorders).

But majority of the time I buy used games after they have been out for a while. Not all of us have good paying jobs to let us buy new games everytime.

Sorry, but I have bills to pay and an exorbitant tuition to handle for school. Plus I get 20% off used games at work. Not all of us can always afford to buy new games all the time.

I usually try not to buy new games.

They can't be very good on my nonexistant pocketbook.

i always buy new games bc i can often times find them cheaper than used prices (gamestop)...if you are jsut smart and use sites like slickdeals.net you will find the games you are looking for new for a way good deal...like right now assassins creed 2 is on sale for $25 and comes with a $10 credit at amazon.com...

the only time i have ever bought a used game or a game from gamestop was when i was looking for a really old game...gamestop is the worst store ever

Exactly, why should you pay more for it when you can get the same stuff for cheaper?

oh thats a Brilliant idea .... why didnt I think of that I mean its so cheap to buy games new at between £40 to £60 per game. Obviously youre either very well off or youre another kid whos still living with his parents and has yet to realise just how difficult it is to afford new games for those of us who support ourselves. I mean I would love to buy all my games new, but you see I have rent to pay, electricity bills, water rates, internet, phone bills, food the list goes on ... 40 to 60 pounds per game is a lot to ask, hell I'm lucky if I have that much left fullstop after all my bills .... when you have to support yourself on a low income you'll kick yourself for how stupid a thread youve made

Thats not always the case, most of the time games are still very expensive new, assasins creed 2 has been out long enough for the price to drop a bit but thats still quite a bit new, I can get it for £10 2nd hand ... so why would I pay more just to get it new?

not sure where u would get it for $10...gamestop has it for $23 used, ebay it is going for $25 used...where as amazon i can get it new for $25 and then receive a $10 gift card, which only makes it $15...

I buy everything new, bc i always can find it within $5 of what the used price is, and many times cheaper...places dont run specials on used games, whereas they do with new

Majority of the games I buy are brand new/ retail. Just picked up RDR and Alan Wake yesterday. I work full time and go to school full-time.. I have loads of bills and tuition but I manage and I fully support great developers, especially those that reach out to fans.

Hell, even with full-time work, it's barely enough to live on. Unless it's a career with a good paying salary. Then it's some odd job no one wants to do haha.

I always buy new copies unless the game I want was released over a year ago (older games can be hard to get a new for). Most of the new games I buy are Limited Editions anyway; Metro 2033, Alan Wake, RDR (on Friday).

Anyway it's not as if game developers are poor. They still get revenue from advertising/marketting and some DLC/Special content/Collectors items.

You can usually find new games for similar prices these days. I haven't bought a used game in a very long time and rarely ever do. I buy online (mostly Amazon) and often get games for 55 or less, plus 10 dollar credit thrown in towards a future purchase. Plus free shipping and no tax, plus no gas wasted to drive to the store. So there are easy ways to buy new and actually save more money than buying used, all the while supporting developers.

Maybe I am just seriously cheap, but I don't even spend $30-$40 on a game. I have amassed a decent sized collection of video games and have never paid over $20 for a game, excluding one case. I did buy Final Fantasy XIII brand new because I didn't want anyone to spoil it for me and I may have been a little drunk.

I get most of my games off of Craigslist, at pawn shops, and on clearance and through sales at stores (so I do buy some new games, just severely discounted new games). Yeah, Amazon can give you a great deal if you want the game the day it comes out, but I am perfectly content with waiting a few months to get it for a fraction of the cost. If there is a big game I just have to play, I rent it.

Buying new isn't always a viable option, as previously stated. In order to get my copy of RDR, I started paying on my preorder in february. I had only put down the final amount on may fifteenth. Three days before launch.

If its a game like SSF4 which is at 40 bucks new then absolutely...but games like alan wake and the new prince of persia I seriously cant seem how anyone can spend $60 on it...is it worth the 60 bucks when you beat it in a few days and having no replay value? no

When I can hand $60 to the cashier without my wallet feeling lighter, I will, required we've got a good game going to my home in the transaction; and this is usually if I absolutely have to have that game when it is released.

Depends on what you're looking for. I spent £50 ($70) on my Alan Wake to get the Limited Edition. I got a book to read, soundtrack CD (which I'm still listening to), documentaries, concept art, and a code for the upcoming DLC. Seems worth it to me.

But seriously, what kind of numpty actually blasts through a game in a few days? :?

I'm in the exact same situation, right down to the wedding in September. I buy almost all of my games used, although games that I know I'm going to replay a lot and that really stand out to me I will buy new, like ME2 or DAO.

HA HA! Why does everyone think the publisher and developer needs to get money off of used game sales? Trade and bartering has been apart of humanities culture since the beginning. If I sell my car, the dealership needs to get paid too? NO! If I sell my iPad Apple should also get a cut? C'mon. Smarten up. Its called a free market. If used games sale do become a problem the market will fix it. And look its beginning with the charging of on-line games. Its a start...and if the market feels its not enough then things will evolve, however, if the market dislikes where the trend is going then it can burn the people who try to mold it (developers/publishers).

They are more than making up for the percentage of money they get from sales with crappy DLC, so you will excuse me if I don't cry a river for them sitting in an ivory tower. The only financial struggles these companies have come courtesy of bad management, not the evil used game market that they facilitate by sending people to GS in droves. They want to work with GS to make them money, but doesn't want GS to make any money that could be theirs. That's not how you compete, they want people to buy new? Compete with GS, stop sending people to GS would be a nice start, stop asking people to spend 60 bucks for a game and then an extra 10 for what they held back and maybe people will have more incentive to buy new.
