Among Rpg available I see many of them r turn based.  I personally dont like the RPG where we r not able to directly hit the enemy. I personally feel 'oblivion' to be the best RPG in years. But lost odyssey being a turn based still attracts me.

What do u think what will be a better in terms of gameplay  turn based or direct hit.

I prefer the realtime like oblivion the only turn based one I liked was FFVII which you could do with two players. Thats the only one.

I didn't know Lost oddessy was turn based but now  you have told me I'm not getting that one

I like both personally. Both of them have different strenghts, and limitations.

Like how i think it's usually easier to increase the intensity of major attacks in  turn based battles.

Lost Oddysey is turn based? Major letdown, now you no longer can call it a Oblivion beater. Turnbased is so boring, I played FF once for an hour and that's enough turn based for a long time. Only turnbased games I can appreciate are Worms and Advance Wars.

I like old school turn based. I played the demo fot the latest FF and it was like playing an MMO. I think the best battle system from an RPG is the one Grandia has. You get all the time you want to decide what to do, but you also get to know exactly when and who's turn is going to come up.

IMO turn based are true RPG's, they are more like the original card games. Realtime is nothing more than a adventure game.

Actually I think both, I love both, I will probably get Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon, but at the same time I love Oblivion, that's why i liked KOTOR, and I will love Mass Effect, because you can play it both ways!;)

Well it's made by Mistwalker. Did you think they would make a WRPG? What makes you say that you can no longer call it an Oblivion beater? That it's turned based doesn't change the fact that it might be better than Oblivion. You have the right to say that you think that turn based RPG's are boring.Earlier i said that i like both, but that doesn't change the fact that 4 of the 5 best games i have ever played are turn based. (all of them are FF's)

i like both s tyles of gameplay... i liked the way FF was setup and i like the way Oblivion is set up. There are new types of RPGs now like Huxley and Mass Effect that turn based may eventually die out... kinda hope that doesnt happen since that in my opinion is a true RPG.

PS: to the mods of this site: why does the thing need to do this "****" to the word "s tyles"???? whats so bad about that word?

I like realtime, I am just not into this "wait and see what your opponent does". You should not even give them the chance to attack if you ask me :)

I like both Turn based and real time.

both have their place.  gotta have variety.

Morrowind and Oblivion were awesome games.  so were turn based RGPS such as Chrono Trigger, FF6 (FF3 on snes) and FF7.

I like real time. The idea of RPG and Turn based fighting go hand in hand for most RPG fans. But for me an RPG should immerse you in the role you are playing (hence RPG) and fighting turn based style is about as far from immersive as you could get.

Turn based RPG can be good too with great storyline, good cast of character and solid character building system but the only thing I dont like is sudden stop of flow of game during enemy encounter. Although lost odyssey is turnbased but it combination of both realtime and turnbased like FF12. It is made from UT3 and might not be the best game on 360 this year but might be one of the best. I think this type of combination is much better than pure turnbased. Also sometimes realtime RPG get annoying like for example Rouge Galaxy where u encounter enemies at a certain interval of time.

i HATE turnbased RPGs! realtime is way better imo. FF being turnbased is the only thing that keeps me from playing it.

That's a tough one, but I'd have to say realtime. Both are good in their own way though.

turned based is more intense and exciting because you dont have control over everything.  but real time is still fun but it feels more like an adventure game like someone said before

In my opinion, turn-based RPG's are an archaic gaming principle that the gaming world has long since evolved beyond, due to the advancements that have been made over the years.  Back when programming and processing capabilities were much more limited, the turn-based RPG genre was a more realistic concept, but in modern faculty, the immersive qualities and overall gaming experience of realtime RPG's are generally much more rewarding than turn-based RPG's.

Defo Real Time is better. Can you imagine Oblivion being Turn-based? All the fun would be sucked out of it. Turn based would surely make fights repetitive and un-interesting.

turned based for sure

most people that only like real time are under 15 this is FACT there are some exceptions thou. RPGS started out as turned based and most JRPGs have stayed turned base, WRPGS have become more like adventure games with rpg elements added to appeal to younger less educated people.

I like turn based combat more. I'm not talking Japanese Rpgs, I generally dislike them. I like something like Temple of Elementa Evil on the PC and Fallout.

I'd say realtime, but there are many great turn-based games also. Like Jagged Alliance 1 & 2 on Pc, Final Fantasy and KOTOR. For some games it just wouldn't work though. As many ppl have mentioned oblivion just wouldn't b the same if it was turn-based combat. The gameplay would suffer greatly.

I prefer turn based by a mile. It gives the games more strategic feel. I feel more like I am out-thinking my opponents rather than just mashing buttons quicker.

The main reason I prefer WRPGs over JRPGs is that most JRPGs are made tedious and boring by their turn-based combat.  Not to mention how linear they are.  I'd rather play Oblivion than FF "insert rediculously large Roman numeral here" any day.

I use to like turn based but now I want more action in my RPGs to go along with the excellent story. Although KOTOR's combat system was fun and I liked it.
