Serioulsy, who actually pays money to watch shows that you can watch at home on cable tv? If you own a cable/DSL connection, chances are you get access to cable tv as well. I mean, MS already charges 50 bucks for Gold, so why don't they offer free TV Shows for Gold Members and make the silver membes pay. Think about it. Nobody is buying this stuff anyways...and if you are, please tell me why you chose to do so.

My plan would make all the shows have commercials..just like when you watch TV and your fast forward button would be disabled so that you have to watch them so sponsors would have a reason to step in and help pay for the cost. I can't imagine that the 'TV Shows' is actually making money for MS or the networks that are involved with Live. They should make it so that if you actually pay for the episode, you get a commercial free, non expiring episode that you can access forever, but if you own the Gold package, you can watch the episodes WITH unavoidable commercials.

What do you think?

thats the same as saying who pays to buy DVDs of tv shows. People still buy them, even though they could go on the network's website and watch the show for free.

I wouldn't buy TV shows off the Marketplace, I'd rather just buy the DVD boxsets if it's something that I really like. There's really no point to get them on your 360 unless it's just for one episode.

But people are buying DVD's of shows...no one is buying the same stuff on Xbox Live, especially with its Hard Drive limitations. How about giving the gold members a discount on whole seasons...such as South Park -Season5-. I'm trying to give a reason for us gamers to actually buy these shows because no one is doing so.

In the end it is all pointless unless the next microsoft console allows you to transport the items from the 360 HD to the new one.

Because Microsoft doesn't own the tv shows so how would they give it for free or even a discount? The network wants its money for letting them offer the shows. Also its not for you to worry about if someone is buying them or not if you don't want them dont buy them its that simple me i love it. You cant always find box sets that i want. Plus if i just get the wild hair that i want to watch a certain episode i don't have to go all the way to the store to find the box set i can buy the one show. Its a great service for those who want to use it no one is forcing us to buy it.

I want the convenience of watching shows on my 360, but I don't like to pay as much as MS is charging. MS could make available TV shows at a discount by including commercials....I said that in an earlier post.

Plus, MS is already charging 50 bucks a year for Gold so 'shows with commercials' is easily conceivable when you see Sony offering free online play on its system. When MS is asked what they have to offer other than online play when it comes to their Gold package, they can add " *you can watch your favorite shows from your favorite networks as well as play your favorite games online". The asterisk meaning that you can only watch 3-5 shows a month, but thats better than nothing.

Basically what I'm saying is that MS could offer the shows for a discount due to the commercials plus the 50 bucks they gain with their 50 Dollar Gold Package.

Look i'm with you i hate paying all that money for the service then having to pay for everything else I mean my brother paid for live then bought PSU then had to pay for the add-0n that was 1600 mico points then he had to pay for a guardian lic. that was just crazy i mean WTF. But at the same time you get what you pay for and the service is top notch as far as the service goes. Plus like i said before its not just microsoft thats getting payed. The network needs to get paid as well and they are not going to go through 20 other companies just to put commercials in to save a buck. and because of that so many more networks have joined microsoft that havn't playstation. Plus if you think about it there are a few perks like USA is one of the networks and normal shows are about 20min. (no commercials) but shows like monk and law and order are 45 min. for the exact same price. But once again i'm with you i hate paying for so much but i love the service

I could be wrong but don't alot of networks offer shows on the net for free on their websites? I would put up with some ads as long as I could pick the show. Unfortunatly we don't get anything as far as shows in Canada on Live so I just stream it from my computer to my xbox.

most networks don't put their shows on the net legally for you to watch. And the ones who do are only offering the latest shows cause if they put all seasons of their shows on then making money off say..... box sets, blockbuster rentals and now xboxlive would be pointless at the most. Plus owning a show and going to a site to watch it is two different things plus and the most important point is that micro. has offered a very large amount of shows even some in which i having seen since i was a little boy and those will not be on any web sit legally. I hope they get it in Canada soon i like it cause i may want to see just one show in my bed wail i relax and its only a flick away i don't have to go to the computer and search for it and sit at the screen. Then i can watch it a 1000 times anytime i want off or on line. And with netflix as a partner it makes it even easier to watch movies too.

I buy a couple every now and then. I don't go ape crazy over it, but if there's a favorite episode I really enjoyed, it warrants a purchase.

I totally agree with topic creater. I don't remember exactly how much each (average) episode costs, but its somewhere in the ball park of 150-250 MS points(standard vs. HD). That roughly traslates to 1.57-3.12 PER EPISODE.

Take for example Heroes Season 1. For standard definition, at 160 MS points it translates to $2.00. (or $3.00 for HD). That single season alone is 23 episodes long, so the entire season would cost 46 dollars for Standard Def, and 69 for HD. That means you could go and pick up the show on DVD, for 2 bucks more (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8385703&st=heroes+season+1&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1645768) and keep it when the new xbox comes out, let your friends borrow it, or ebay it when your done with it. Not to mention you'd be saving a pant load of hard drive space. (at nearly 500MB per episode) Now I work at a blockbuster where we rent out these shows on seperate discs, with roughly 4-5 episodes per disc (depending on the show) for 5.24 after tax(in standard DVD or Blu-RAY for same price). Which means you could buy 2 episodes for the price of renting 4.

If you take in account all of negative factors of purchasing episodes through MP its not worth the 10 cents you'd save per episode.

I suppose to some all that up, either like topic creator suggested add commercials and make it, free/cheaper. What would be the harm in starting up each vid with a short commercial like the do here on gamespot?
