Xbox Live's fall update is finally here. You can now use Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM, and Zune right from your Xbox 360. This marks four new social outlets available to Xbox Live Gold Subscribers.

First off, you won't have to actually update your Xbox. These features merely need to be turned on for use today. Twitter will automatically be on your console but you will have to download Facebook, Zune, and Last.FM in order to use those services.

Here's a rundown on how each of the new services work.

Facebook
Using your Xbox 360, you can now read profiles, manage friends, look at picture albums, and almost everything else that Facebook has to offer. You can even have Facebook send friend invites from your Xbox Live friends list.

Twitter
What you can from a computer on Twitter, you can now do from your Xbox. You even get a fancier, and more interactive, way to view Twitter as each tweet will pop out as you select it. Plus if you wanted your avatar to do a little more, when you browse Twitter from your Xbox 360, your profile picture is replaced by your fully animated avatar.

Last.FM
Xbox Live members now have access to millions of free songs from Last.FM. Users will be able to browse different categories of music and rate them by either marking each track as "love" or "ban". You can decide to subscribe to the service for $3.00 per month and see who is visiting your profile as well as enjoy uninterrupted, ad-free listening to the Last.FM service. Subscribers will also receive their own station comprised of music they have previously loved.

ZuneMarketplace
With Zune, gamers can purchase movies and television show and view them in full 1080 HD with their Xbox 360. You can even form a party and watch videos on Zune with seven of your friends. Furthermore, video you purchase on Zune from your Xbox will be available to download and watch later from your PC or Zune device.

Facebook I found rather pointless since my computer is right next to my bed and you can't do much on it, haven't tried Last.fm, and don't have Twitter. For Zune Marketplace, the thing I was most looking forward to was the streaming movies, but I have yet to try it yet. I'll probably rent a movie sometime later this week and see how it goes. I've already tested my connection and I'm good for HD streaming so this should be a huge plus over downloading and watching movies.

so how does zune hd work exactly? do you need a membership/subscription? how is this any different than the video demand service that is already in place?

With the Zune Marketplace you can stream in 1080p, whereas normally you can only download movies, and I believe its only 720p. There may be others but that's the only difference I know. You don't need a separate membership or subscription. Just an active Gold membership for Xbox LIVE.

Didn't care much for any of the updates. I have a Twitter but I rarely use it. Facebook is only good with a computer. No need for last.fm when I have a computer with a lot of music and I never use Zune marketplace.

One cool thing about facebook is it shows which of your friends is on xbox live...always forget to ask people their gamertags and it just shows them on there from all your facebook friends. Anyone know what it looks like if you show ur gamertag on facebook? is it just one line saying your gamertag?

Go into the Marketplace and select any random movie that has HD rental, select that, then select Stream, and it will test your connection to see if you can stream it.

The fact that Facebook requires gold makes it seem very useless for the X-Box; I mean why use something that less then the original, on a device that makes it even less useful, when you can use the original for FREE?

I could see if having it linked to you X-box acted like the Live.xbox.com user page and tracked you Achievements and games in a place were people that don't have an X-box live account can see it.

Last.FM is incredible... if they do an update later down the line which allows it to work during gameplay, it'll be the best thing ever.

I dont think that would happen because wouldn't that take up too much bandwidth?

I've enjoyed the updates a lot, I was most excited about facebook before the release but I didn't like it much, it just doesn't feel like a good interface to browse the site. Twitter makes more sense, and I'm in love with Last.fm I've been playing it every morning.

Yep! now I just wish I could purchase videos... that will be death of all disc formats. Though I guess I could just upload videos to my pc/harddrive and stream it to my xbox...
