Universal Component

I was woundering about this cable called the Rocketfish - Universal Component Video Gaming Cable i wanted to use it for my 360 and wii does anyone know if it is good for a HDTV??? Thanks!

I had a look at what you mentioned, and I'm confused. Is this just a single set of component cables for the 360/Wii? Or like a kind of switcher box for it?

Either way, if your 360 model includes an HDMI port and you have an HDTV, I would recommend you use an HDMI cable instead for better picture clarity. If you don't have that port on your 360, component cables are still good, but you might be able to find the original cables cheaper than what you're looking at.

To be quite honest there's not enough specifics in your post to determine what would be good for you - we don't know what kind of HDTV you have, what Xbox model you have, if you have a home theater system or not, etc...

Sorry about that. I have a Sony - BRAVIA 52" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV. As for my 360 it does not have an HDMI output. Also, i do have a home theater.

Ah, so a kind of switcher for the three consoles, not a generic component switcher like I thought. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, looking at it, it looks to be fine if you want to conserve component cable ports on your TV... Even includes L and R audio jacks. However, you have a home theater system. If you want better sound, you may want to hook the LR audio through there instead of directly to the TV. Obviously the jacks may not be long enough to reach anywhere but to the TV, so what you'll need is kind of like my setup with the PS2, you'll need an RCA extension cable.

If you need an example of what one looks like, here it is. Basically think of it as an extension cord for your LR audio to reach to places other than your TV.

Keep in mind three things however:

1. The above is if you want just the video going through the TV, and the sound going through the home theater system. If you want all audio and video going through the TV only, you can just connect all five cables to the inputs on your TV.

2. Since they are component cables, and I have not had much experience with them in an HD environment, I could not tell you if you will get full 1080i or 1080p modes or not, they may be disabled on your Xbox, even if your TV supports them.

3. The cables you are looking at and the RCA extension cable are all third party cables. Since they're not the original cables, I could not guarantee how the end result will be. For me this worked (And I did this with a PS2, not with a 360.) but every system setup is different.
