Is there any way to unsubscribe from xbox live ..... I'm going away for the next four months and don't want to be paying monthly fees to xbox live when I won't even be using it (I'm not taking my 360 with me). When I go to the 'Membership Details' part of my account but they only give you the option of buying 3 month subscriptions or 12 month.... but not to stop subscribing or to go back to silver... Any Ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you.

-call them to cancel

Expect to have a difficult time with customer service... make sure to write down the person's name that is talking to you on the phone. When you are finished with the phone call, call back and double-check that they have actually cancelled your service. After they tell you they have not cancelled your service ask them again to cancel the service. Write down the person's name again and reference number of the phone call.

...Check your credit card statement in a month and when you find that M$ is still charging you, call customer service and continue to try and cancel the service.

Who pays a mothly fee for Xbox Live? The way to cancel is to call them up and you will receive a credit for unused time.

ALSO , if I do call them will I still be able to play out the rest of the month I'm still on or will the account just turn to silver without allowing me to play the rest of my time out. i called to cancel when I had the first Xbox. Had no problems and it will cancel the same day. There was no way to cancel on a future date and is calling a 1800 number really inconvenient?

Well of course they want it make it difficult.  They want your monthly fee whether you use it or not.  Live fees must generate a ton of revenue for MS.  It would be nice if they did include it in the dash but I doubt they ever will.

If you're paying monthly, then just change your credit card in the Account page to an invalid number. When they can't charge your card, they will revert your Live subscription to Silver.

I would just wait to call them until you'll be leaving. If you do call now and cancel, they will probably send you a refund check for the remaining time (at least they did when I canceled my yearly a while back). Also, you may have to sit through a talk about why are you cancelling and if you will reconsider (my friend even got a free game to keep his subscription). Just be clear to them that you need it cancelled.

What are you talking about it is not like that. If that is true than that is illegal on their part. If someone calls your company and the person says they want to cancel, THEY HAVE TO CANCEL THEM. They may offer them deals first or something, but they cannot say they canceled and then not do it.

I figured out an easy way. Go to Xbox.com. Go to My Xbox then accounts. Upgrade/Manager Account. On this page is seems like there's no way to cancel it...$soft is sneaky...However where it says Auto Renewal:ON...ON is click-able. It's going to offer you like 3 pages of crap trying to get you not to unsubscribe but it'll let you cancel it. No phone call, no extra charges.
