Microsoft would lose a lot of money that way, and the whole simple plug and play experience would be ruined.
I don't think so. All the tech-illeterate gamers have to know is if their system is a tier 1, 2, 3, or what and insure the games they buy are their tier or below. HP, Sony, and all the computer manufacturers can compete with each other and create many different types and price points of Windows XBOX edition gaming consoles that can then flood the market. and if a new tier comes out every two years or so, the XBOX is refreshed far faster then the other consoles are. If the specific system is designed to be easily upgraded, then user's just have to plunk down another $100 or so whenever they are tired of not having access to the latest games, and then they will be upgraded to the latest tier.Microsoft would lose a lot of money that way, and the whole simple plug and play experience would be ruined.
