Facebook Is Neat And I 'll Probably Be Using It Ocasionally...Last.Fm Is Nice...And I Don't Use Twitter. Not Bad For An Update.
accepted to the preview but my system hasnt updated yet, will add more when it does, but im looking forward to last.fm and facebook, now i wont have to leave my xbox to see what my friends are up to.
I heard you had to be 18 or over to access this stuff? If that's true it's utter sh*t. I'm not yet 18 but my parents gave up limiting my settings a long time ago. It's not such a problem for me, it will only take a couple of seconds to make my account into a full adult one with an email change. but I'm sure there are plenty of kids who want to use last fm, facebook and all that too, but their parents want to keep an eye on them for some reason.
Wow, I need to keep myself more informed... wasn't even aware they had started taking applications for this preview. I previewed the last update... whish I would have got in on this one. When does it launch?
Last.fm is great. I usually come home from work and play music while i change, eat, do some PC stuff, (like this). And last.fm is great for my situation. Facebook is ok. Not great for posting but it's great for checking out everyones pics. Zune Marketplace is ok but really limited to the content right now. Don't care for Twitter at all. The News channel is pretty much worthless since it's very short clips.
Overall i like it. I always like options, especially when they're free. But it's all too cluttered. They spread everything around so you're always jumping from one thing to another. They should have made all the apps, like Netflix, Facebook, Zune, Twitter, Last.fm, and gave them a seperate blade. Having them spread all over the dashboard is annoying.
[QUOTE="Large_Soda"]I got the update last night and it's decent. The Facebook and Twitter functions are kinda limited, if a friend links to a website your essentially screwed, because there is no web browser on the 360, but it's not that big of a deal, since I do most of my Facebook/Twitter from my phone or computer. The part that I am excited about is the Zune Marketplace and the 1080p streaming. I did the test and I am "approved" for 1080p streaming, but I've yet to actually rent anything. Perhaps on the weekend. The only crappy part, which I'm pretty sure comes down to the region I'm in the movie selection, even worse is the TV selection, The Hills, Viva La Bam and Jackass. Craptastic.Texas2089What do you mean by "approved"? What do you have to do to get it? This is the feature I'm actually looking forward to most in the new update and it would suck if I can't use it.
When you go to rent a 1080p movie it does a test on your internet connection and lets you know if you will be able to handle 1080p. I've heard that some people were having issues with how "instant" the streaming is. We shall see.
Facebook is so so but I really like last.fm. I don't care much for twitter and 1080p streaming is meh for me since I don't use the video marketplace.

Ah ok. I think I'll be good then. The update is garbage, I was looking forward mostly to Facebook and Last.fm, Facebook because i could just stay in my room and still be able to see what my friends were up to without having to walk out to the compute specifically to have a 5 minute look at the site. Last.fm because i spent about $700 on my speakers and receiver (well worth it btw) and a music channel like that would've been awesome.
Facebook - lame, all you can do is change your status, comment on other peoples stories in your news feed and view pictures. Can't view video, can't write on your friends walls, cant access applications, can't do crap really.
Zune Video - Might as well just have put a black background on the current video marketplace, everything costs the same, looks the same, is the same. The TV that's included is absolute crap, the type of stuff they give you for free from your cable on demand service, except that all of it has a price tag on zune.
Last.fm - Only available to residents of the US and UK, everyone else is excluded.
Twitter - screw twitter in general.
News - Only available to residents of the US and UK, again everyone else is excluded.
and to rub some salt into that wound, the preview site, the connect.microsoft.com one is so poorly formatted that the "preview specific forum" contains a large number of posts like "where do I find the preview forums?". also it's telling everyone they submitted an incorrect ID and asking them to resubmit, it takes half an hour to find anything and nothing works like it should.
I'm seriously unhappy with this update and the magnitude of it's crappiness. I know it's free but good god, at least put a little effort into this.
I thought Halo Waypoint was supposed to be in this thing. Maybe they just left it out of the preview but thats the only thing from the update I even remotely care about.

All preview members DO get Halo Waypoint early. I thought it would be at launch because Major Nelson said on his twitter...
"Those chosen for the XboxLive Preview Program will get a first look at Halo Waypoint. We'll sneak that in for you to enjoy."
But then, right before the preview program launched he said...
"Also, if you are in the Preview, you will NOT see Waypoint until later next week. Keep that in mind."
So yes, we do get it early. Just not until next week.
Has the overall look of the dash changed? If so, how drastically?
I'm interested in it and looking forward to it somewhat, but I don't know how useful any of it will be for me. I have a facebook that I use quite frequently and a Twitter account that I have never really used, but I run my PC through my 37" high-def TV, so I really don't see myself using the Xbox to update Facebook when I can just hit a button and go to the PC without getting up, or without even ending the game I'm playing. I wonder if you'll be able to set it up so it updates facebook saying what game you're playing or something? That might actually be kind of cool.
I need to read up on what the last.fm feature is all about. I have an account for last.fm that I haven't logged onto in a year or so. Doesn't it just update people on what music you're listening to and create statistics on your music? Or is there streaming also? I forget.
As far as the Zune thing, I'm assuming it's just another media (video) marketplace? Something you don't need an actual Zune for?
Obviously I need to do some reading and see what, exactly, all these features actually do.
It definitely is organized poorly all right. Facebook and Twitter are on the My Community blade but seperated by 3-4 ads. Zune is located on 2 different blades. Last.FM on ANOTHER seperate balde. And then the Internet News channel is still on another channel. And then it's down the blade aways before you can find it. It's really cluttered and unorganized.
