i'm using the ones that strap on the back to help cool the insides of the 360, and whenever i turn it off and i leave the cable plugged on the controler to charge it the fans still keep going, but the 360 has been turned off, how can this be? is this normal? is this gonna affect the machine in the long run in any way?

and on a sidenote that thing (the intercooler) is not as noisy as i thought it would be, asides from what i described above, i'm not complaining, its a good product.

you do know that you voided the warranty on your 360 by using that thing, right?

It's not like M$ knows or can tell you're using the intercooler. I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming the USB ports stay on and active for a while after the console is turned off for recharging controllers, which is why the fan stays on as well.

actually they can tell that you used it, since it leave black marks on the back of your console. and if it gets really bad it will even melt the back of your console. pictures like this are all over the internet

If there was no damage, they cannot tell.

Personally I use a modded Nyko Intercooler that has its own power supply. Since it doesn't jack into the 360, I have no problems whatsoever and my console stays cool as cats for hours.

good for you, your warranty is still void though. you also shouldn't discuss mods on this board

please don't tell people what they should and shouldn't do.

And no he didn't void his warranty.  A modified intercooler is just the same as sticking more fans behind the 360 vent.

That's saying it straight.....I totally agree.....That intercooler is nothing but trouble....

If you take good care of your equipment like myself, you wouldn't have to worry about add-ons...

Ok, i'm gonna help you... TAKE IT OFF NOW!! The Nyko product uses the 360's power supply making it easier to get a Hardware Failure. Becuase it goes in the back of the console, it makes the internal fan's RPMs to go much faster than it should, so it'll deteriorate faster. You also can get the burns and the melted back if you're not lucky.

A guy in here said it has an on/off switch, that's the older version of the intercooler and its even worse than the one you have because of the extra circuit. I also suggest that person to take it off.

Now to answer your question, when you turn off your console and you connect the controller to recharge it, you'll notice that the light in the power brick turns green, that means the power supply is on. The intercooler detects that the console is on via the power supply.

My suggestion now.
Return your intercooler, if you can't, take it off anyway. If you're having overheating problems buy a computer fan with an ac adapter (so you can plug it on a normal socket) and put it in the side opposite of the hardrive so it blows air inside the console and helps the ventilation. If you have more money lying around, buy the usb notebook cooler (its better than the intercooler but i don't like the idea of connecting anything to the 360 that needs a considerable amount of power).

For future reference, don't give more work to a console that already overheats.

Okay first off, my warranty isn't void, Microsoft aren't Big Brother, if the 360 isn't physically damaged, they can't know if you used a Nyko thingie or not.

Second, don't get all moderator-boy on me because I "talked about modding". Damn I just removed the power jack and gave the Intercooler an external voltage source, it's not like I'm telling people how to play with illegal copies of Gears, geez.
