Hi, I just recently bought Rock Band 2 (game only), along with a GH 3 Les Paul guitar controller to play it with (I bought RB 2 just for the guitar; I don't care for the drums and the mic). After opening them up, I looked at the instruction booklet for RB 2, and noticed that the Rock Band 2 Fender Stratocaster guitar has 5 extra solo buttons. Meaning the songs will have extra notes here and there. After playing a few songs I noticed that not all the songs have solo notes on them. On the songs that do have solo notes here and there, do you have to hit those notes, to keep your note streak and not fail the song? Or can you keep your note streak and not hurt your overall performance, without hitting those extra solo notes? Also, since the Les Paul guitar obviously doesn't have those extra solo buttons, will using it with Rock Band 2 take away from the overall experience? If yes, does it degrade the game to the point that a Fender guitar is needed to play the game with? I really don't want to return my Les Paul and pay an extra $20 or so and get the Fender RB 2 guitar, if the Les Paul guitar can get the job done. I would highly appreciate your opinions.

I personally have RB2 and GHWT. I pre-ordered them and to make a long story short I had to buy the whole kit for both of them in order to get them first day. I use the Guitar Hero instraments with both games. GHWT's equipment is so much better(and yes, everything workd fine first time).

Most likely, you won't even use the solo buttons. I play on expert and could use them if I wanted to but I don't. There is no real point to it at all. Not only is it uncomfortable because it's near the base of the guitar but it's not realistic so it takes away from the authenticity. Not to mention that using them is entirely optional. You're not missing out on anything.

You can use the guitar Hero: World Tour Instruments with RB 2.

I heard the drums on RB2 are better than GHWT, any truth to that according to you? Currently playing RB2 with GH2 and GH3 guitars, which works fine, but doubting which drumset to buy now.

GH's drum set is set up like a lot of smaller electronic drum kits. It's really solid also and doesn't make alot of noise. I was able to jump right in and start playing(I play a few instraments).

The RB drumset feels very cheap. Basically, you hit four lined out pads and a kick. I had to learn the set's arrangement and it still feels akward to this day. It's just noy very natural. The only time I break out the RB instraments is when we use the guitar for a bass with GH. Unfortunately, the songlist on GH is god awful and the RB tracklist along with the downloadables is great so I don't play much GH. I'm glad I got both though so I could pick and choose myself and find out what works best with what.

I don't think so, I use GH 2 and 3 controllers on all my rhythm games.
