Just bought a 360 today, and I can't get connected to Xbox LIVE for the life of me! Occasionally, I can get it to connect to the internet, but it fails in the attempt to connect to the LIVE service. Sometimes, it'll connect to my wireless network, but will fail to connect to the internet. Mostly, it'll tell me that my MTU is set too low. But it's given me other odd errors as well. Regardless I've searched high and low through my router config and can't find anything to do with MTU. I've got an Ultraline Series3 router, which is the router that came with the FiOS installation. Any tips? =(

Well, I do know that the wireless signal itself is fine, because my Wii, which sits right next to the Xbox, can connect to the network just fine.

Have you tried wired? It's always better.

Wired is not an option, sadly. I would have to string an ethernet cable halfway across the house. This just seems like an abysmal failure on Microsoft's part. My Blu-ray player is also on the same piece of furniture, it connects to my wireless network easily, no fiddling required. Once again, I am reminded why I have always avoided Microsoft products in the past.

I use FiOS with my XBox on Wi-Fi and the only problem I have is that often, my XBox won't let me connect to XBox Live. Or, if I'm connected and I start a game, the system disconnects me from Live. And then when I go back to dashboard, the system will sometimes automatically reconnect me.

I tried turning off my router for 30 sec and then turning it back on, and then that seemed to at least somewhat remedy the problem.

For the record, I found out that the problem was due to low signal strength, which for some reason the 360 seems to be fairly finicky about.

Meh. I'm always embarrassingly terrible in online games anyhow. I can live without Xbox LIVE.

Switch to 1 or 11 and see if that helps?

Couldn't figure out how to do that... dunno if my router supports that option, actually.

Probably does

Call up FIOS (I have them too) and explain that you want to change the channel on the router, chances are that's going to fix your problem

I too have fios. I have vista on a laptop and is connected to fios, my solution to get on the internet with the xbox was to enable the file sharing and turning on the windows media center, once I went through the windows setting, I have no problem connecting to the internet.

Maybe its the pc settings and not the fios connections. Maybe this will help you.

^ Can you explain a little bit further? How were you able to use your PC to get your Xbox online?

I would try forwarding the ports required by LIVE. Google around to find out the ports and the manner in which you should go about this. I have my ports forwarded on my Fios router, and it works perfectly.

Repositioning my router allowed me to connect to Xbox LIVE, albeit the connection was fairly slow and weak.

So, it's definitely just a good old fashioned signal strength issue after all.

Do they make more powerful routers, that you can buy? Or upgrade antennae?
