So I used to have an old monitor that I played my xbox on (can't remember what they're called. Just an old, big, monitor) and it looked great. But now I have a samsung 22" widescreen and it looks like doo doo with my vga cable! I'm pretty sure I've tried all of the resolutions and they either don't fit right or are blurry. And every time I switch my monitor to the xbox my monitor says " not optimum mode. Recommended mode 1600x900 60hz." Is there any way to get a better picture or is my screen just too big for the provided resolutions?

That sucks! I am waiting for my VGA cable to come in the mail.. I also have a 22" LCD Monitor.. I actually never thought about it being blurry or anything. Sucks that the 360 doesn't just support 1680x1050 then it would look perfect. Do some google searches on 22" 360 vga or something. I found a few topics about it but nothing that really helped. Some suggest it will look better on a 24" monitor so I may consider upgrading. BTW, the old monitor you had is called a CRT (Cathode ray tube) monitor. I'm currently playing on an old 19" tv so the 22" lcd should look better then that. 1280x1024 resolution is said to look the best on a 22" LCD monitor I was also thinking of just picking the resolution closest to 1680x1050 and then adjusting the monitor so that it is not stretched or anything. I will see once I get my VGA cable.

I dont know dude :? I used to play through VGA on a little 19" monitor and it looked nice and crisp, only downfall of VGA is the colours can appear a little washed. Then i bought a HDTV, 37" and used VGA on that and it still looked awesome. Now ive changed to HDMI though

Thanks guys. Hope it works for you dan. I've started using the highest resolution the xbox supports without my monitor saying "not optimum mode". I think it was like 1400 by 800 or something. It looks a little crisper but there are small black bars on the bottom and top of the screen. I don't really care though, I got used to the black bars when I played on the CRT.

VGA looks insanely better than HDMI in my opinion WITH THE ..on my 32" HDTV. I prefer VGA because it looks more glossy and clear, as opposed to the HDMI tendency to look dark and gritty. But maybe it's just my TV, (which I kinda doubt) everyone's eyes are different though. Investing in a VGA cable is a very good idea, it could be you guys's monitors.
