I bought a set of VGA cables for my 360, got them all hooked up and turned on my xbox. The screen goes from blue to gray but wont display any picture. Any idea what is wrong? Its hooked to my 27" Viewsonic HDTV along with my computer via DVI.

You need to check to see if your TV is DVI-A (Analogue). If its not it wont accept a VGA signal through the DVI port

There is a little switch on the connector you need to change it to HD if you are using a HDTV

No my computer is hooked up via DVI and the xbox via VGA. If I have both plugged in at the same time would that be a problem?

No, that shouldn't be a problem.. Maybe you have to change your monitor settings or have your 360 display in standard tv definition and then change the settings on your console... I've never had any problems doing this, so I'm not exactly sure how to fix yours.. Sorry. :(

That's not possible with the VGA cable as there is no switch. It is different to the standard component/composite cable. If you are getting a picture, but grey rather than colour, it could be to do with the refresh rate - a 50Hz / 60Hz issue. I know with my old SD TV that had a VGA input, it was only capable of 50Hz, and when I tried to run 60Hz only games they would either fail to load at all, or display in grey

Why don't you just try it? I would think you would get your answer. I had a Viewsonic 27" but it did not have the DVI.

So you are saying you have successfuly used VGA cables? If so then it is def the cable because the xbox autodetects the cables you are using so other than tweaking the settings you should not have to do anything but plug it all in.

I would just try the same brand. I have the intec ones and they work fine. I would save the money since the MS are not worth it and make no difference (I tried both).

i do the same setup with my 22" monitor. The only thing i acn think of is not the monitor, but the xbox. It probably set to the wrong resolution and cant read the signal. Mine is set to 1680x1050 for 22" widescreen. Check what it is for your 27". Then hook it up to another tv through composite or component and then do intiial setup. As you go through one of the beginning steps, it will ask for your screen setting. Memorize which resoulution it will be for when you hook it back up to your monitor. If you do the right clicks and steps you should be able to get the right one. Just do trila and error with the steps. It might help if you map out what it asks you on a piece of paper. Just message me if you need more help, I've done this before.

When you first put in the cables it just sets it to the lowest resolution so it will show up. You then have to tweak it for your tv/monitor. So unless you had it working and set it up for a rez your tv does not support AND some how said yes to the settings even when you could not see a picture - it has to be the cables. He said it had worked before so the cable is either not all the way in or it is faulty.

Yeah, I have the Intec VGA cables too, and they work fine.

So OP, you're saying you've run your 360 on this TV before using VGA? If so, and it worked, it obviously has to be the cables, or there's the off chance that something could be wrong with the VGA port on your TV now.

Seems strange either way...

i guess if it worked before then the cable is not good. I use the VGA cable made by microsoft and its pretty good. I would test the VGA input on the monitor with another conputer that has a VGA output just to make sure your monitor isn't screwed up
