Hi all,

Ever since ive had my 360, ive used component, i heard that VGA gives out a better image quality then component, is it worth buying the VGA cord? I usually play in 720p but the slower paced games like forza2 demo i usually play in 1080i. Also, what improvments does HDMi bring?

thanks alot

VGA and HDMI are on par according to experts, with component bringing up the rear (though it's still very good). With VGA you get a better image quality, but slightly washed out colors. It's not really essential to buy the VGA cord, but if you have some change lying around, it's a good purchase.

HDMI is better than VGA, but you don't have that option. VGA offers a sharper picture than component -- and you can't upscale DVDs or, usually, go to 1080p via component. The update addressed some issues people had been having with the VGA cable that made colors look washed out, so now it looks fantastic and I recommend it highly. My PC is hooked up via DVI (a digital signal, like HDMI without the audio) and the VGA on my 360 looks just as colorful and sharp. If you have the option to hook up via VGA, I very much urge you to do so.

i heard that they fixed the washed out colors for VGA now, so is it worth upgrading from component for better image quality?

its hard to find an HDTV thats actually VGA compatible so as great as it is, dont waste your time trying.  AS for component, several TVS can actually handle it at 1080p so its great if you find one.  HDMI, other than the audio, its as good as the VGA and component in 1080p.

HDMI > DVI > VGA > Componentbudorz

Video wise, it goes like THIS:

HDMI=DVI  > VGA > Component

HDMI and DVI, both have the same digital video, the difference is that HDMI also has digital audio.

Yes, but the analog variants can't be used if you wanna use a HDMI to DVI cable... but fair enough

any tech heads out there should know this like second nature

both VGA and HDMI are high definition BUT VGA is analouge and HDMI is digital thus HDMI gives you better image quality assuming obviously that you have a true HDtv

if you dont have the HDMI option then VGA is your next best opition and certainly not a bad one by anymeans

VGA and HDMI will always look better than component.

It's the differences between HDMI and VGA that are slim. Really, really slim. Like, unless you've got eagle eyes, you'll barely notice a difference.

If you don't have an HDMI 360, or TV for that matter, VGA is the way to go.

I've been using VGA for my 360 for a long time, and it's always been a lot crisper than the component image, which is slightly foggy compared to VGA.

This was fixed through a system update awhile back. You can now change the reference levels (black) with the VGA. Believe me, it makes a difference! If you have a TV that supports HDMI, that's the way to go, but if you have a PC monitor sitting around just get the VGA and some PC speakers that support R/W audio connectors.

Now I know this sounds crazy, but when I had my 360 connected with component I experienced terrible screen tearing, slowdown and video stutters. I tried switching back and forth between component and VGA and I swear it's not my TV. It's crazy, but VGA looks and performs better than component. Of course this is IMO.

HDMI and VGA will not look too different unless the TV is huge. Even then ... it's not as extreme as a lot of people say if the TV is a good TV. HDMI will actually be better than VGA with a poorer HDTV that doesn't handle the analog to digital translation as well.

I'd definitely do HDMI if you have it, but it's not omg by any means for most cases.

Haha, GameSpot deleted my post because they don't want the truth out there I guess. I'm pissed off because I bought a HDMI cable and there is no difference from my VGA connection. Bah!

The majority of people could look at the screen for a week and not spot any difference...Just like the majority of people couldn't spot the difference between an HD-DVD and a Blu-ray.....hell I know people who can't tell the difference between those and a regular DVD.

Will i be able to see any difference if using on a Sony 32" LCD TV that support 1080P signal even though the resolution is only HD Ready? Currently i'm using the component cable that come with my Pro version. I'm thinking of upgrading to HDMI but wonder if its worth to pay for that HDMI cable.

This... With Hdmi besides the one plug convenience you get richer color and better detail in dark ares. I've hooked my Box up using all these methods. Hdmi to DVI with a converter. So my statements fact with hands on testing and on multiple LCDs the difference with Hdmi is very noticeable.

HDMI > DVI > VGA > Componentbudorz

i cant vouch for the xbox, but i know this, HDMI looks AWFUL for my pc, a VGA cable at 1920x1080 resolution looks superb (42 inch tv used as screen)

the graphics card on that machine cant use HDMI coz its a slightly older model of 9800gt.

but the laptop i recently got has 1680x1050 graphics, its odd but, in HDMI should look good?! no, it looks pixelated and nasty, maybe its because the hdmi doesnt like trying to fill so much space at once

but vga works fine, fills the entire 42 inch screen and the resolution is as clear as the main pc i use on the same television, so honestly, i cant see HDMI being as good in most cases.

Amazon.com sells extremely good amazon brand cables for 6 dollars, it's completely worth it at that price and you can really notice a difference.. I sure did.
