A lot of people have been asking if the Halo 3 Collectors Edition case is really resulting in damaged disks. I thought I would help clarify the matter. This is a link to my post on the Xbox.com forums.
Disk-based medium has always sucked. It just gets worse in HD/BR. Why don't they build a simple casing like a 3.5 floppy, because selling the same product twice to the same consumer is double the money!
I unknowingly bought a brand new game a few months ago, and when it arrived, the entire center piece of the case had shattered, all the little plastic pieces that hold the disc where bouncing around along with the disc in the case, but when I opened it, it really wasn't scratched hardly at all, no where near as badly as your Halo 3 disc is.
That is amazing to me, that you buy a brand new game and it's that damaged. Sorry to hear it.
