Okay, I want xbox live silver, but the ethernet cable isnt long enough to get from the computer to the 360, and I can't really move this setup, Is there any way I can connect to XBL without shelling out $70 (from the goodwill) for the MS official wireless adaptor? And I do have a laptop with wifi, if that can help.

Yeah, buying a longer cable is the cheapest way outside of moving your Xbox closer to the jack so that your current cable will reach.
