i bug my buddy about that all the time (though he bought a guitar before he bought guitar hero)
he's got gh2 and just got rock band. tells me how he's getting pretty crazy.. i asked him if he's been playing his real guitar, he says no..
it's really sad. instead of becoming good at a fake guitar game, he'd actually be pretty decent at playing a real guitar if he put the time into it that he puts into rockband and gh.
that's why i could never buy those games.. i'd have to kick my own arse if i got good at them 'while my guitar gently weeped' ;)
Actually, speaking as someone who plays the real guitar, GH3 is actually a good place to practice your "fingering" skills. With the higher difficulties involved, its even a good place to learn proper timing and practicing "soloing" speeds. A guitarist always has to keep his fingers nimble and be able to precisely time the chords. Guitar Hero 3 may not teach you proper chords, but it is a pretty good workout.
And truthfully, learning the chords on a guitar is really one of the easy steps. Its the timing and moving to different chords at the right time that is the real "hard" part of playing. And since GH3 helps with this, its a plus!
i always thought if they made keyboard hero they could actually start off where the keys are coloured but go up in the difficulty levels to the point where its telling you the notes to play etc. so in the end if you got upto expert then you had actually learnt to play the keyboard. djrobst
Frets on Fire...
Guitar = 6 stings, 24 FretsWIN!
Guitar Hero = 1 string, 5 Frets
Just say this to them everytime they complain that its hard work ajc_176
I'm the opposite. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years now. I found that it's actually easier to play a real guitar then the simon says crap that the GH games have going on. But again, I've been playing for over 15 years. I remember the first songs I learned were 'Come As You Are' by Nirvana and 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica. Ah, good times! :)EnderSR388
So for someone that has never played a guitar or Guitar Hero it would be easier to learn Nothing Else Matters on the guitar than on GH?
I understand the point you made, but I don't understand why you made it.
Oh well, I'm just a crabapple today.people are so stupid these days. my friends were playing guitar hero and are really good but now they want a real guitar and i keep telling them that gh3 is just a game guitar u need lessons but they go ahead and buy it and they dont want to learn ne more cuz its too hard for them. do u no ne body that played gh3 and bought a real guitar after it?kngkng21Oh, yes, just about everybody in my school played GH3 or RB and all bought real guitars and now they realize that they actually have to practice a lot before they can play well. Luckily I'm not that stupid.

I HAVE THOUGHT THE EXACT SAME THING!
a full size keyboard that is for a video game, and in the end, you will actually know how to play the piano
it would be much more fun to learn if it was a video game, rather than lessons from an instructor
after playing guitar hero 2 i went out and bought myself one of those starter les pauls and i tought myself how to play using tabs i found off the internet and while im nowhere nere as good as some of my friends on an actuall guitar i love being able to play the songs i love for realFUBAR24
And there's no game in the world that can match that thrill!

Well, here's the thing. I started learning guitar back in '93. I had only been playing for about 3 weeks when I learned Nothing Else Matters. So I guess what I was getting at was that if someone really wanted to play guitar, even some pretty complicated songs can become easy. Most of Nirvana's songs require you to learn anywhere from 3-5 chords per song! Not that complicated  They're some of the easiest and most fun songs to play when you first start learning.
You can fudge chords and stuff on a real guitar and it doesn't always require a god like sense of timing. Sometimes it fun to just sit around and jam, you know? You can't do that with a GH guitar. :)

TeeHee. You said Fingering and Hard in the same post :D
Your right guitar hero does not help you play a guitar at all, but it does help in the streching and speed of your fingers, i purchased a real guitar after playing guitar hero 2 & 3 for a couple of months i can play Bulls on Parade ( i dont have a killswitch on my guitar or a effects pedal so i cant do the solo,) but i can play the rest of the song pretty well, i can also play certain parts of Paint it Black, im not that good im still training, but GH inspired me to pick a guitar and play.

exactly. I mean i love the guitar hero/rockband franchises dont get me wrong but its just a whole different feeling when you play your first song on guitar than when you 5 star your first song
i don't see there being any issue with a video game motivating someone to try out its real-life counterpart. i think it's actually encouraging to hear that someone's decided to pick up an instrument because they enjoyed playing a game based off that instrument.
as for all that practice that comes with playing a real guitar, it's something that would have to be overcome, and the degree of success depends solely on the individual.

Thats really funny! :D
