So my budget comes down tro $485 and that's after I sell my Wii.

I've done the math and the Xbox when it goes down in price on september 7th*** to $299.99 it will be $345 with tax. Then I need to pay for XBL for one year and thats $70 with tax. That leaves me with exactly $70 to spare. That's either enough for one game ($59.99 with tax) or a warranty ($60)from bestbuy.... What do I do?! Is the Xbox likely to break down even now?

***Can someone confirm that the price will go down on Sept 7th?

I supposed I COULD take out the extra cash from my bank account..That would all of money............ But I don't know if I want to invest so heavily in Microsoft when they might come out with a new Xbox next year! I might get both, but I feel uneasy spending ALL of my money. Also, can someone confirm if the price will be dropped $50 Sept 7th?

well, I can't really tell you what to do. if you're a safety like me lol, just go get a game. I keep my 360 in a well ventilated space that's cooled down. so no worries if that's the case. :D

I say get the warranty. That way you don't need to worry about your 360 breaking down because you have some insurance. Just go into the store and exchange it. Plus Microsoft only covers free repair for the red ring of death, so if you get anything else, it will more than likely cost you more than the price of the warranty plus you would have to wait (i'm guessing here) a couple of weeks so they can repair it for you. Your 360 probably won't break down, but in the event that it does, you'll be able to fix it more quickly.

Hmmmm okay so if my Xbox does break down, and you can't even turn it on. What would I be able to do to get the data onto my new xbox?

first off where do u live?

at the highest sale tax in u.s is 8.5 so

at 300 dollors sale tax at 8.5 thats 25 bucks man not 45

then one year xbox live card is 50 times 8.5 tax thats 4 bucks andsome change

then a game at 60 bucks with sale tax at 8.5 is like 5 bucks and some change

i say dont get warranty because those 60gbs has jasper and falcon chip in them making them run betetr then elits

then if u could make 50 bucks in 3 months for one yera gold thats cool because xboxs comes with 3 one month trails even tho u would have to make new accont each time. so if u pass on that if u like for the meen time if u like.

buy halo 3 used or w/e game u gonna buy save u some money to

make sure u have a eathercable long enought to reach from tv to modem/router

oo and for sure pick your self up a play and charge kit or u be spending 5 bucks monht on batterys because controllors suck up aa batterys. rechargeable last a good 25 hr per charge u can even charge on your pc at night if u like and thats 20 bucks so thqats only like a dollor and 50 senct in sala tax

btw if u dont know how do that pull up a calculater on your pc then type the amount of cost then times then 0.085.

if your salatax is just 8 or w/e u put in 0.08 pretty simple after u know what u doing

I live in Canada and tax is 15%. I already have rechargable batteries so that's fine... I still don't know if I should get a warranty because you said they are better with the new chips.

I order a lot of stuff from Amazon and I have never been charged tax on there.

I have always been a little confused about warranties. Doesn't it come with a free one year warranty and a three year warranty for the RRoD?

How would you feel if you got a game and your 360 broke after about 2 weeks? No warrenty either.

But how would you feel with no games? You can always download free demos off xbox live. Thats what Im doing.(and I have Halo 3)

Right now my answer would be to get the in store warranty, only cause my 360 just gave me the E74 message with 2 red lights and then turned into one red light. So i'm not really sure if that's covered within the first year of microsoft warranty, but I sure am glad to have the best buy product replacement plan warranty. Don't have to wait for ms to repair it. So if you like to wait for repairs, then I say go with the game, if not..go with the warranty.

XBL is a service, not a product, if you pay with a credit card and not by buying a card it is $50 w/NO TAX. The purchase of a card is what u r paying for, not the service.

In Canada its 12 months for 60$. If you get the card its 13 months for 60$

And xbox points are more expensive, so dont bother buying them either because canada pretty much gets alot less themes, gamerpics, movies and more(Excluding game demos)

Sorry I missed the spot where he said he was from Canada. They sounded like U.S. prices, except for that RIDICULOUS tax rate.

thats the one thing i absolutely hated when i visited America, everything is + tax, in australia everything already includes the tax. i remember numerous times getting out what i thought was the right amount of money only to have the cashier tell me something that was about $3-4 more expensive....sorry to go off topic :P

Buy a warranty and buy a cheap game with online play like Shadowrun. It only costs like $10 USD not sure about Canada.

you could steal a game for like half the price...:P seriously though a warranty does make it safe, but why buy any of this if u cant play the games?

Definetly grab the warranty. You can always just buy a game later, even if you have to wait, it is best to have the warranty to make sure you'll always have your console no matter what.

Well already can't put the Xbox in my room because it has no WiFi, and I'm definately not paying $100 for it. But I save money by doing this, and I might eventually drill a hole through the wall for the cable.

Anyways, I've decided what I'm going to do:

I'm going to buy the 360, with nothing, no warranty no XBL, no game. And I'm going to rent a game and see if it's worth the investment, I've done research and played it and I think it will be but I want to double check ( I can return it before 30 days in full price, like I have done with a 2 TVs and a PSP). Once the rental needs to be returned I'll either rent another game and deicde which game to buy out of the two. Then I'll get the warranty (you can get it 30 days after purchase) and then XBL. Then I'll have no money and I'll wait until christmas and my B-Day (both later this year) to get a few games and save money up.

Does anyone know if the 12 month XBL has points included? Because I made a horrible gamertag and I want to change it. And also I think services have tax too because when I pay for Wii points the price is usually higher than it says (then again those might be the exchange rates from US to Canada, even though they are pretty much the same now).

You can delay buying a game until you have more money, but you can only get the warranty when the console is new. I'd recommend getting the warranty, as while you may be fine and have a perfect 360, the regular warranty is only for 1 year

is it a 3 year warranty? than get it... i just used my instore warranty a few days ago, and my xbox was 2 years old, than gave me RROD.

Screw the game, protect the xbox, its weak and it will break.
