Thats what I hear, as I never played the sequel. The coolest thing about the first was the mixed unit tactics you could play with before and during combat... But somehting about the world was constricting and disapointing. I only played it through once.

Yes, Origins was better. Combat is slow as hell but the rest of the game is superior to the sequel, because Dragon Age 2 was rushed out. Dragon Age 3 Is being given more time in development, so hopefully it will be closer to the quality of Origins.

The only really disappointing thing about DA:II was that the environments were recycled so much. They'd call it a completely different area and just block off a tunnel, or passageway and open a different one. Other than that I liked it quite a bit. However I preferred DA:O approach to combat a bit more on PC, but DA:II had combat in spades for the console version.

Second should have been a new IP, then it wouldn't have been compared and it would have been considered to be a pretty good game. But since it was a sequel to origins. It was a flaming piece of shit. Origins is one of the best RPG's this gen. 2 is one of this gens biggest let downs.

To the OP, who is probably trolling, but anyway, yes DA1 is much better than 2.

Even though Dragon Age 2 on its own wasn't a terrible game, when you compare it to the original I was left completely disappointed!  It was an obvious rush job just to capitalize on the name.

Here is my user review if you wanted my opinion :)

Yeah pretty much this. I remember playing through the first one and not wanting it to end, the second one I was kinda hoping it would get over as it just seemed to be a stripped down version of the first one. On it's own it was pretty ok, but having set the standard so high with the first one it did leave me kinda dissapointed.

Though it's a matter of opinion I thought Origins was better than it's successor by leaps and bounds. I have Dragon Age Origins and all subsequent DLC and I play it on a regular basis actually. I did not, however, bother to purchase Dragon Age II as I felt a single playthrough was adequate.

But your opinion means absolutely nothing still as you haven't played nearly enough of DA2 to warrant a worthy opinion.

How is the story in Dragon Age: Origins? Is it good, or is it like Fable, where the main story is random and non-coherent? I love me a good, epic RPG storyline. Plus, DA:O is like $3 on amazon used.

It's the latter. None of that silly Fable nonsense. For $3, it's an absolute steal. It will last you a while, and you'll probably want to play through it multiple times to see how the story pans out as you make different decisions.

EA have dropped/are dropping the Online Pass too, so you'll get the 'bonus' character for free.

They both had things about them that I liked but I thought the first was better overall even though I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the older games that it played like.

Hell yes. I played though Origins about 7 times, I love the game. But DA2 I had to force my way though it the first time, and never touched it after.

Debatable. DA:O was so dry IMO that I was never able to finish it. Also, for me I couldn't stand the companions after about the half-way point and some of them even sooner. Morrigan, and Alistair just annoyed the crap out of me from the start and after about half-way through Lilliana's constant upward inflection on everything she said was beginning to grate on me.  I got fed up and stopped playing it after about 2/3 through.  That said, I really liked DA2, the companions were WAY better, especially Isabella and Varric and the combat was much less tedious. The story was a bit jumpy due to the narrative, but overall I think it was a better game. Plus you get to kill Anders, so it's win/win.  I have still never finished DA:O and really have no desire to go bakc to it, but I have completed DA2 twice.

You're absolutely right, the second one was junk. They really messed up the combat with that one. I loved Origins and I hope DA3 is similar to that one.

Nope, the first one was horrible which is why I thought it was hi-effing-larious that people were bitching about Dragon Age 2. Only reason it got so much attention is because in late 2008 there was a huge slew of highly anticipated games being released in a one month period between mid-October and mid-November, such titles include, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, Tomb Raider Underworld, Tom Clancy's Endwar, Call of Duty World At War, and I'm probably forgetting another notable 1 or 2 games; anyhow... so due to the high degree of competition, and the fact that Call of Duty sold so much, many studios were deterred from releasing games during the holiday window in 2009, that's why so many games were pushed back to early 2010 that were slated to originally release late 2009; ironically, they just created another competitive window, that's ironic since pushing their games back to late 2010 was done to avoid competition in the first place, but everybody did it... Anyhow, so besides Uncharted 2, Dragon Age Origins was like one of the only notable games to release at the tail end of 2009, which is why it did so well because there was very little else new for people to buy, except maybe the next COD and Borderlands, but nothing like should be expected in a holiday window for releases. I tried to like it, but the game was no good, I can only see those with the greatest hard-ons for generic fantasy loving this game. I've heard some people even claim Dragon Age 2 was better, and I'm inclined to believe it since those that badmouthed the sequel tended to follow the "EA is evil" crowd which basically would hate EA if they cured HIV/AIDS, so I'm inclined not to take the badmouthing of Dragon Age 2 with any serious consideration.

I loved everything about DA:O. I enjoyed DA2, but it was a let down to me. The artstyle was bland compared to the first game, and some quest were just picking up trinkets without a story to it. I did however like the button mashing though. I know a lot of people don't like it, but for some reason, it made me feel like I was playing Diablo.

That's why I specifically said "from the brief amount I played." I really never understood why people on these forums seem to always feel the need to nit-pick every post.

Yes, own them both on PC, Origins was fantastic, DAO2 was dissapointing.

Origins is def better in every way other than maybe graphics.
