Anyway, the best gun/perks depends entirely on what type of match your playing. For instance, if your playing hardcore team deathmatch/Search and Destroy, Marytrdom is NOT your (or your teammates :) friend. I shall now impose a list of my custom genres, and what game modes and maps I use them on.
CQC Ghost;
MP5/P90 (Silencer)
USP.45 (Silencer)
Flash/Stun Grenade (Both are equally good)
Special Grenade x3
UAV Jammer
Extreme Conditioning/Last Stand/Dead Silence (Down to preferance)
This is an awesome customisation for deathmatch modes, and small maps. A little note on this genre is that you are completely invisible on radar, which is always a good thing. Now over which primary weapon is a matter of opinion, MP5 has the damage factor, whereas the P90 has a hefty clip. Both guns also have great metal sights, so losing out on the Red Dot or ACOG isn't a big problem.

Another quality genra for the slightly bigger maps of CoD4, and for any mode! The primary weapon factor is again preferance. The burst fire of the M4A1 along with stopping power will down anyone without Jugguarnaut (A rarely used perk) if aimed at chest height, and is possibly the best gun at mid range, but if close up and you miss, your pretty much buggered. 2 nicely placed shots with the AK from medium to medium far is enough to bring people down, and close up its a beast, but accuracy is a bit shoddy. If you don't mind crouching while shooting then go for the AK. M4 Carbine is the most used gun in the game though, and for good reason. With stopping power its the BEST ALL ROUNDER gun in the game. Powerful and Accurate, if you miss and panic though, your a goner. Perk 3 is debateable, but its what the player prefers really. Personally I go for Last Stand for a number of reasons...
1. Some vets and alot of new players think your down and run off, quick and nice kill.
2. You can still detonate C4 while in Last Stand (Double Tap reload) Nice sneaky kills
3. Most importantly, your still alive for a few moments more. If you have a 6 kill streak and are killed whilst you have martyrdom, no chance of the Helicoptor, but with Last Stand you'll still have a chance of getting that all important 7th kill. You could also save the day on 1vs1 scenarios with a cheeky last kill!

Great Sniper set up, again with options for preference. Barrett .50 is the best Semi-Auto for power, one bullet chest upwards is plenty, but the Recoil might put off a few, if thats the case the SVD Dragunov would be better. On to bolt action I really like the R700. Amazing power and accuracy, but the recoil is immense! Make sure you take them down with one bullet, thats the aim of a sniper anyway! With the grenades its all down on what you prefer and what game mode your on. If you like helping teammates with the objectives, in this case, planting the bomb, throw the Smoke to hide yourself or comrade. If your feeling edgy and want some extra support, keep a flash or stun handy. Iron Lungs for the true sniper ONLY IF YOU NEED IT! It is a massive help for far shots but if your really good trade it for something to your liking (Last Stand ;)

Awesome mixed sniper especially made for S&D Game modes. Having both a Sniper Rifle and an SMG/Assault Rifle is great for any type of terrain and situation. Put a Sniper Rifle as your first weapon to ensure your character wears the appropiate Ghillie Suit (Or cap :) Perk 3 is yet again down to preference, but wierd for me because Last Stand is generally not favoured because of the shoddy and weak M9. Claymore I feel is superior to anything else Perk 1 for S&D missions, because even if you die, your Claymores will still be in affect until the end of the round, just make sure you plant nice, early and effectively!

The Grenade Launcher genre. If you don't like GL change to claymore. Anyway the assault is down to prefernce. All round average stats and a fast GL reload with the G36c. Where the AK is more powerful, it has a slower GL reload.
