Yeah, as two of you have already said, the series as a whole was quite a failure, as is the case with most EA games. But I liked the first one (Vendetta), it was decent. Fight For NY was horrible and ICON was even worse.
I wish EA would stop releasing so many bad games, and spend the time they'd be spending making all those crappy games making really good ones, like Burnout and Medal of Honor/Battlefield.

it wasnt so much that the def jam series was a failure cause it sold pretty decently and spawed two sequels. the problem was when EA made their jump to 'next-gen' then they started to make crappy games and that was where they went wrong. i think that the first one was ok and FFNY was great and icon was just a total letdown.i agree, vendetta sucked, fight for new york was one of the best 1 on 1 fighter's i've ever played and icon had good visual's and roster but gameplay sucked.
Yeah i've gotta say the Fight For NY is probably one of my all-time most played games. I downloaded the icon demo and didn't like it though. Wish they would make a new one with an engine similar to AKI but i don't really see it happening anytime soon.
i feel that though ICON was the most artistically and creatively done (graphics, interactive environments), FFNY had far superior gameplay. i dont understand why features like 2v2 were removed, because i loved playing as myself, with Henry Rollins at my side, together pounding the living hell out of snoop and fat joe.
i think there should be a new game in the franchise, so long as they focus more heavily on gameplay and audience, and less on flashiness.
if i'm not mistaken, the reason why the gameplay in dj icon was different is because thq owned the license to the wrestling moves featured in dj vendetta and dj ffny. in order to make the sequel as good as the first two games, they're going to have to work hard to attain the license from thq, then make a dj game that has similar gameplay to dj vendetta, but using the fight night round 4 engine.
no THQ did not have the license for wrestling moves the have the rights to the names of them and def jam did not use any specific names to their moves really so that isnt true. it would be another thing if EA put John Cena or The Undertaker in Def Jam, but they do not have a patent on wrestling moves that can be performed. but i do agree they will need to return to their roots in order to make a great game again much like FFNY.if i'm not mistaken, the reason why the gameplay in dj icon was different is because thq owned the license to the wrestling moves featured in dj vendetta and dj ffny. in order to make the sequel as good as the first two games, they're going to have to work hard to attain the license from thq, then make a dj game that has similar gameplay to dj vendetta, but using the fight night round 4 engine.
