After going into Dashboard and connecting to Live, all that happens under the Marketplace tab, Games tab, etc is the Xbox icon in the middle of the page with the ring around it, but it won't go into Marketplace or anything. I've never seen this before - anyone know what the deal is?

I've had this happen before, all I did was restart my modem, seemed to clear things up. Have you tried running the connection tests? It might give you an answer.

Yeah, I ran the connection tests and everything came out okay. I tried signing out and clicking "Join Xbox Live" and it restarted the console and now is on an orange screen saying "Downloading Updates", but it's seemingly taking forever. Confusing.

I noticed your other posts in a similar thread from a while back. Did the guy's suggestion for hitting the button combinations to reset the cache or whatever work?

I've never had that happen, maybe you just need to wait for the updates to update?

that probably would work, since it seems you're having problems with an update now, not just live... cancel the update when it comes up and clear the cache... it's worth a shot.
